Almerindo “Butch” Caruso

Almerindo “Butch” Caruso, 81, of North Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, died Friday, May 12, 2017. He was born January 19, 1936 in Yonkers, New York to Almerindo Caruso and Sabata Castaldo.

Al was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Fort Myers and was a U.S. Army veteran. He worked for the City of Yonkers prior to retiring to North Fort Myers in 1999.

Al’s first passion was his family. He also was an enthusiastic cook, who loved to share meals and host holiday gatherings. Al also enjoyed sports, playing semi-professional baseball in the Yonkers leagues and, later, softball in Hastings. He remained an avid golfer and diehard New York Giants fan his entire life.

Al is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Paulette “Letty” Caruso of North Fort Myers; three children, Michael Caruso and wife Julia Otani-Caruso of Old Greenwich, Connecticut, Carolyn Caruso and husband John Brink of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York and Gina Caruso and husband Edward Kuchinski of New Canaan, Connecticut; six grandchildren, Anna, Katharine, Alexa, Lizzie, John and Claudia; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Al’s wife will miss her soulmate and active social director. His children will miss a father who was always present. His grandchildren, to whom he passed on his passion for the Giants, will miss their “Pop.”

Al was preceded in death by four siblings, Joseph, Enrico, Aniello and Serafino Caruso.

Interment will be private.
