David S Upton

July 18, 1954 - September 25, 2017

David Skinner Upton, beloved father, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away on September 25th in Fort Myers, Florida. David was born on July 18th, 1954 in St. Joseph, Michigan to Harriet Skinner Upton and David Frederick Upton. He grew up swimming and sailing with his three older siblings on Ridgeway before attending Suffield Academy in Suffield, Connecticut. He graduated from the University of Michigan in 1978.

His entrepreneurial spirit carried him through his career in sales and business, with positions at Cellular One, Just Talk, and as a realtor at Century 21 on Fort Myers Beach. David was a professional pilot, flying for insect control and charter flights. Most recently he reveled in his love of conservation and nature as a member of the Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary Sustainability Board.

He called Fort Myers Beach home for 32 years and loved raising his two children there with his former wife, Glen Upton. He devoted his time to youth sports programs at Bay Oaks Recreation Center and the Fort Myers Beach Lions Club.

David’s passions included flying, music, the Chicago Cubs, and University of Michigan football. Above all, he loved his family and sharing his sense of humor with them. His enormous heart and kind and generous spirit flowed in abundance for the people in his life. He was everyone’s cheerleader.

David is survived by his son, Cazzie, daughter, Ariel Upton Greaves (Josh), siblings, Ben Upton (Bonnie), Betsy Stover (Woody), Margy Trumbull (Scott), and eleven nieces and nephews.

Dad/Poppy/UD/Pud – we love you with our whole hearts.
