Karen Lea Bastian

Karen Lea Cotto Bastian “Katie”, 73, a resident of Cape Coral, formerly of Ithaca, NY, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 in Cape Coral. She was born June 14, 1941 in Montour Falls, NY to Leonard and Meredith Ashley, now deceased.

Katie worked with the department of Social Services in Ithaca, NY. She was a caretaker for several elderly people in NY. She was a staunch advocate for women and children. She enjoyed music, singing, gardening and her antiques. Her most treasured moments were with her family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Ray Bastian of Cape Coral; six children, Lisa Cotto of Cape Coral, Francisco “Frank” Cotto of Ithaca, NY, Zane Cotto of Ithaca, NY, Mathew Cotto of Cape Coral, Jon Cotto (Monica) of Newfield, NY and Patrick Bastian (Gina) of Ithaca, NY; one brother, Edward Ashley (Hannah) of Yarmouth, ME; three sisters, Nancy Connor (Henry) of Owensboro, KY, Marjorie Goodwin of New Cumberland, PA and Laura Wood of Wrightsville, PA; 12 grandchildren, three great grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews; as well as four special friends, Connie, Penny, Dixie and Annette.

Katie was preceded in death by her stepfather, Gorton “Pop” Wood.
