Sheila Doreen Taylor

April 20, 1929 - March 4, 2015

Sheila Doreen Taylor, after travelling this world many times over, made her Final Journey on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. She was born April 20, 1929, in Toronto, Canada, to Frank and Marjorie Barnes (now deceased), and was a long-time Ft. Myers resident until her call Home.

Sheila is survived by her loving daughter Barbara McCubbin, son-in-law Peter Weicht, both of Cape Coral, Florida; two grandchildren Anysia and Katrina Weicht, of Lee County; one sister Ann Shields, niece Linda Fehrmann, and Great-niece Sharon Fehrmann, all of Toronto; and one Great-nephew Daniel Fehrmann, of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada.

Sheila was preceded in death by two husbands, Ernest McCubbin in 1984, and John Taylor who passed in 2012, just 14 hours after her only son Michael McCubbin.

Sheila was a teacher for 65 years, and, in accordance with her wish, she will teach her last, best class at the University of Florida, in Gainesville.

Sheila degreed in Pedagogy and Music at the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, was a Lyric Soprano, singing opera live on the radio, became a Navy wife in 1951, adopted a son in 1954, then a daughter in 1956, resided in Florida, British Columbia, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Massachusetts, Quebec, Holland, and travelled to every point in between. In every burg, town, and city, she taught piano and voice.

Sheila smiled at all in her sight, and befriended those who crossed her path. She was a gracious woman who loved life, had great humor, and an angelic voice. When remembering her, she has asked to be quoted thusly: “I tried to love as many people as I could, and I went out with all my own teeth.” She was 85!
