Stephen Kelly Higgins

December 6, 1957 - February 17, 2015

Stephen (Steve) Kelly Higgins, 57, a Cape Coral resident for the past eight years, formerly of Richmond, VA, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 in Cape Coral. He was born December 6, 1957 in Akron, OH.

When in Richmond VA he worked for H. F. Bulifant & Sons for many years as a carpenter/superintendent. Steve was well known as a master carpenter in his trade and was successful for many years in all aspects of construction.

Steve relocated to Cape Coral some 8 years ago when his father in law – Bill Parker – passed away, also from lung cancer, and coincidentally at the same hospice. Steve’s relocation to Florida further describes a man of compassion for his family and doing the next right thing. He continued his career in construction, specifically carpentry, but managing all aspects of construction.

Steve was a grateful and service oriented friend of Bill W. for 21 years and an inspiration to many. The word NO did not exist in Steve’s vocabulary – there was never a drive too far away, never a hand that reached out for help that Steve did not hold.

Steve’s family, friends of Bill W., fishing, and sports – especially golf, and NASCAR and football were his great passions – in fact, Steve never met a sport, college or pro that he didn’t love and support, especially while eating chicken wings.

He is survived by his loving wife of more than eleven years, Lisa P. Higgins of Cape Coral; father, Brian Higgins of Richmond, VA; mother, Shirley Higgins also of Richmond, VA; four children from Richmond, VA and Tampa FL- Stephen Kelly Higgins, Jr. , Joshua Higgins, Brianna Davis and husband David, Chelsea Higgins, two loving step children – Ashley Darnell and Cory Darnell both of Sarasota, FL; a sister, Susan Harris and husband Greg of Stuarts Draft, VA; two awesome grandchildren, Rhett and Trent; his mother-in-law, Rosalie Parker of Cape Coral, FL.

Memorial contributions in memory of Stephen Kelly Higgins are requested for either Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908 or The Salvation Army – Corrections Division, 10291 McGregor Boulevard, Fort Myers, FL 33919.
