Ann Elaine Swearingen

August 15, 1961 - July 8, 2021

Ann Elaine Swearingen, 59, a resident of Cape Coral, FL for the past 21 years, formerly of New Albany, IN, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2021 in Cape Coral. She was born August 15, 1961 in Columbus, OH.

At the age of seven, Ann’s family moved to Louisville, KY where she spent her childhood until attending U of K and earning a bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. Ann was living in New Albany, IN with her spouse, Tom, when they decided to fulfill their dream and move to Florida. From there, she never looked back. She absolutely loved Cape Coral and the people there. Ann had a kind heart and soul and was a caregiver to both people and animals. After Tom’s death she spent the next five years caring for her father-in-law George who lived to be ninety-nine. As an avid animal lover, she rescued many stray cats and watched other people’s dogs with the same love as if they were her own. Her first animal rescue was a litter of kittens at the age of fourteen and from that point on, there was no stopping her. Ann was not only a beloved big sister to Janet, but also her best friend. Her generous and compassionate spirit will truly be missed.

She is survived by her loving mother, Janet Wittwer of Louisville, KY; siblings, Janet Wittwer of Louisville, KY, and John Wittwer (Cindy) of Elma, NY; nephews, Jack Wittwer, Will Wittwer, and Thomas Terry; as well as a niece Allison Terry.

Ann was preceded in death by her father, John William Wittwer; loving husband, Tom Swearingen in 2015; as well as father in law George Swearingen in 2020.

No formal services are planned at this time.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Ann Elaine Swearingen are suggested to Cape Coral Animal Shelter, 325 SW 2nd Ave, Cape Coral, FL 33991.
