Anna B. O’Brien

Anna B. O’Brien, Atty. 96, a Ft. Myers, FL resident originally from Massachusetts passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2016. She was born in Milford, MA to Frank and Jennie Berardi, both now deceased. She was the wife of Daniel J. O’Brien, Atty. who passed away in 1958.

Anna practiced law in Massachusetts for over 40 years. She received her law degree from Boston University to include her Juris Doctorate. Anna was admitted to both the U.S. District Court of Massachusetts and the U.S. Supreme Court. There were a number of positions she held where she was the first woman to hold such distinctions. She was the first woman to hold the position as part of the Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Worcester County Bar Association. Locally, Anna was the first to be chairwoman of the Milford School Committee. She was also the first woman to be on the board of the Milford Zoning Committee and the Milford Finance Committee. She was a member of the Town Counsel of Milford and received the Outstanding Citizen of the Year Award by the Highlanders. She held a real estate broker license in Massachusetts and a real estate salesperson license in the State of Florida.

Anna belonged to the Theta Phi Alpha National Sorority, the international Kappa Beta Pi legal society, the Sons of Italy, the Rotaryann Club, and the local, county and State of Massachusetts Bar Associations.

Anna moved to Florida after retirement to be closer to her children and grandchildren where she continued to be a loving and extraordinary woman, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her two loving children, Anna Hamilton (Mark) of Ft. Myers, FL and Daniel O’Brien of Ft. Myers, FL; four grandchildren, Shawn, Kyle, Brendan and Erin.

Anna was preceded in death by her sister, Gloria Speroni.
