Carole Jean Leis Troup
Carole Jean Leis Troup, 84, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 1990, formerly of Centerville, OH, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020 in Fort Myers, FL. She was born October 5, 1935 in Dayton, OH to Ralph and Hazel Leis, now deceased.
Carole was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Jack Troup in 2013.
Carole and Jack enjoyed their Florida lifestyle and spent many days fishing and boating in the Pine Island Sound. They enjoyed traveling together, especially with friends, on many cruises. In her 50’s Carole completed multiple marathons with Jack cheering from the sidelines.
Carole loved researching and teaching genealogy. She was one of the founding members of the Pine Island Genealogy Group about 20 years ago. She welcomed everyone, offering advice to members new to genealogy. She loved hearing and telling family stories and was excited by each new discovery even if not her own family. She brought humor and fun to our meetings and will be missed. As a member of the Lee County Genealogy Society, Carole served as a group leader for their Family Tree Maker special interest group and also served as the Recording Secretary for a number of years.
Carole’s love for genealogy lead her to join Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) on Oct. 8, 2005; through her 4th great-grandfather Frederick Fox of Maryland. She had a passion for DAR and her family history, proving her lineage to another seven Revolutionary War patriots. She served as Recording Secretary of the Estero Island Chapter, NSDAR, 2011-2013.
Carole was a member of the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fort Myers.
Carole is survived by her loving children, Geoff Georgopoulos (Rae) of Cincinnati, OH, Lois Troup of Denver, CO, and Joni Amato of Longwood, FL; sister, Marianne Rich (Ron) of Seminole, FL; sister in law, Betty Leis of Cape Coral; brothers in law, Mike Troup (Barb) of Englewood, FL and Toby Troup (Sandi) of Miamisburg, OH; grandchildren, Michael, Ava, Cassie, Jamie, Chris, Danielle, Gabrielle and Michelle; nine great grandchildren; as well as eight nieces and two nephews.
A Memorial Service and celebration of Carole’s life will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, October 5, 2020 at her home in Cape Coral, FL.

Carole was a fascinating and knowledgeable person. She was a dedicated genealogist and helped many patrons at the old Fort Myers -Lee County Library as well as in the new Fort Myers Regional Library.
I met Carole once and felt an immediate connection. She was a one of a kind person. Her spirit will live on in all our treasured memories of her joyful warm woman I will miss her
