It is with great sadness and a heavy heart that I bring you this post… unfortunately, early this morning, my father, the best dad a kid could ever ask for, passed away. I was already booked to come down today for a friends wedding, my brothers were all down last weekend, and my Pop fought like hell to hang in and see me one last time. God had other plans… I was informed upon my arrival that he moved on to heaven, I broke down, and I’m breaking down right now writing this post.. I did have a chance to see him as my mom did the strong thing and delayed calling 911…i had the chance to tell him how much I love him, tell him how much he meant to me, how much I’ve learned from him, how much I admired his patience, compassion, caring, and love of everyone around him… I could feel his presence as I looked at the body his soul left behind… he was still there, he comforted me, I could hear him in my head, he told me everything is going to be ok. I told him that I would carry his energy with me for the rest of my life, i would strive everyday to be as good a person as he was, and when I die, we will be reunited again, to create more memories and great times with lots of laughs. I told I would love others like he did, by using my sense of humor to brighten the lives of everyone around me, just like he did. I would accept everyone just like him, regardless of faults or anything else. It was his time, his gas tank was on E, he fought his ass off till his last breath. It was an admirable display over the past several months. Then I started thinking about all that extra time we had, God blessed us with months to say goodbye, for him to tell us how proud he was, to tell us how much we meant to him, and to tell us how much he loved and appreciated each of us… I had my goodbye, and I’m incredibly grateful for that, thank You God. In closing, I hope that you all tell your loved ones how much they mean to you, you may not get the chance that I had…and lastly, I want you all to know, that my Pop’s nickname was ‘Bud’ for a reason, and I will be carrying that torch from here on out, my goal is to be the best buddy I can be to all. My family thanks you all for the love ❤️ @ Stairway To Heaven

Dad was a man of action. He taught his sons life’s greatest lessons not by words, but by his example. Whether it was taking care of family or friends, chasing our dreams, or learning what doing the right thing looked like Dad always showed you how it was done.

The greatest life lesson and really Dad’s greatest success in life among the many he had during his life was being a faithful and devoted husband to Mom for over 50 years and in that time raising five strong boys who all love the Lord.

My pride was being his son. Dad gave fully and completely of himself. His example of love and devotion to God, his wife of more than 50 years, his five sons and the family, and countless friends, epitomizes a rare and incredible life of achievement.

As brothers, we are proud to be his legacy. We will spend the remainder of our days focused on his example and working to live in a manner worthy of his admiration.

We love you deeply, Dad. Thank you.

Through all the seasons of life Dad, you showed us the way with your faithful commitment to our family. Patience and love, intelligence and goodwill, hard work and discipline, leadership and determination, dedication and devotion, joy and laughter, these are the traits you have given me and exemplified to your grandchildren. These enduring qualities and more, you gave to us, and proved the truth of God’s love for us, and we are so very grateful for everything. Rest in peace Dad, we all love you very very much.

When Dad turned 70, I wrote him a heartfelt letter. I’d like to share it now.

    Dad,
Happy 70th birthday!! Amazing the blessings the Good Lord has given us. Our family is at the top of the list. Sorry we won’t be with you today, but we’ll be thinking of you. I know you don’t want presents, and you think we’ve done enough already. Actually, nothing could be farther from the truth. I could never repay you for all you’ve done for me. All the hours worked at Canada Dry, the sacrifices you and Mom made so we could have a better life. So instead of giving you “things” on your special day, I’ve decided to give you something different. I realize now our most precious commodity is our TIME on earth together. Life has a way of soaking up your time, often limiting that time with those you hold most dearly. I’ve decided to take some of my time to write this letter.
Pop, you taught me so much and am so grateful for you. When you got up every morning before the sun came up without bitching or complaining, I noticed. My work ethic was your gift to me. When neighbors, friends, or family called for help and you were always there for them, I noticed. It’s why I share my medical knowledge freely. When I got in trouble as a kid, sometimes you beat my ass (which I deserved), but sometimes you withheld judgement and were there when I needed you most. I am a better father because you are a great father to me. Your commitment to Mom and your family has inspired me to do what’s right for mine.
My memories of you always start and end with your hearty laugh. You make friends easily. You enjoy your life, are content with what the Lord has provided, and share your joy with others. I love your satisfaction with the simple things: a cold beer, a good piece of steak, a job well done.
Things you gave me without realizing include your love of fishing, boating, the Eagles, a good cheesesteak, soft pretzel, and a stiff cocktail. Thanks. The things that make me a good surgeon aren’t things learned in a book or in school. No, it is your mechanical ability that the Lord passed to my hands, and your way of relating to others that I have emulated.
Jen lost her father at a young age. Thank you for being her second father.
You’ve taken a beating physically and keep on ticking. You’ve aged with a toughness, resiliency, and grace which I could only hope to achieve. Thanks for taking a chance and moving to Fort Myers so you could be closer to us.

I love you with all my heart.
    Happy Birthday.
    Your son,
    Charles

Bud was a very special person and friend. He was always there to lend a helping hand We will miss the many afternoons we shared with a cold drink and listening to oldie, but most of all we’ll miss that smile and hearty laugh. Bud, tell God we are so thankful to have had you in our lives!.

Had the pleasure to meet Bud & his family through our neighbors the DeHavens .
Loved his hearty laugh & conversation. The last of the Mohicans they say !
One small story I would like to share .
Twelve years ago myself , Bud , Mike & our two boys John & Tom we’re playing golf in a St Francis golf outing in Ft Myers .
On the tenth fairway I got a phone call from my brother that Dad had passed away. Naturally it hit me hard , but I did not want to upset the boys & decided to keep it to myself until we got home after the event .
When I was walking down the fairway Bud came up to me put his hand on my shoulder & asked if I was ok . I know to this day that he knew of my loss . Great man , great family .
    RIP my friend.

Bud was such an admirable person! His hearty laugh was infectious; his Faith in God was steadfast; and his advice was always the best. We loved him dearly, and will miss him greatly.

My favorite memory of family get togethers as a child is hearing the boisterous laugh of Uncle Bud. You couldn’t help but laugh when he was laughing. I have noticed Jack smiling and laughing in his sleep A LOT this week, and I would love to think that he is getting to experience the best laugh in his dreams. I will miss you and that amazing laugh Uncle Bud! Give mom-mom and pop-pop a big hug for me!

Springers…I am thinking about you today, I wish I could be there. Please let me know if there is anything I can do to help. Love you all!

The Pool people at Herons Glen will miss your laughter and comments. Bud, you helped us solve all the main issues of the day. You will always be a true HG pool person. Those lasting qualities helped to make us better people.

    Dear Uncle Bud;

You were incredibly the best husband, father and uncle that anyone could have had. You loved. You listened. You cared. And best of all you knew how to superglue a tooth back in!!! As much as you are going to be missed, I am oh so happy that you are no longer suffering. You and Aunt Joanie raised an incredible family that knows the Lord and openly love others. For that, I hope that you are proud. I am so happy that you are in heaven. Please tell my mom to keep praying for me. I am lost without her. I’m sure that you all feel the same way about (Uncle Bud). You were an example of God’s word. Nothing could be greater. I love you. Gail
