Daniel J. Barker

December 12, 1953 - March 14, 2017

Daniel Joseph Barker, 63, a Ft. Myers, FL resident since 2013, formerly of Madison, WI, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017 in Lehigh Acres, FL. He was born December 12, 1953 in Baltimore, MD to Carl and Geraldine Barker, now deceased.

Daniel was bright, creative, and often too smart for his own good. He dedicated over 20 years to Madison Gas & Electric and could proudly recite the current cost of a kilowatt hour, much to the delight of his children (who still never turned off the lights when they left the room, despite this useful information).
Daniel made no apologies about the amount of time he spent outdoors. In fact, it was as if he actually enjoyed the sound of crashing waves on the beach and the smell of salt in the air; or the sight of a soaring bald eagle over the Wisconsin River whilst paddling his canoe; or the sense of accomplishment after building miles of new footpaths for future hikers along the Ice Age National Scenic Trail with his fellow volunteers. We may never understand it, but there was something about this “outside” place that made him happy.
Above all, Daniel had a wonderful sense a humor. His smile was contagious, and his laugh was way too loud. He loved trying out new recipes in the kitchen, and telling stories from his Adirondack chair (which he hand crafted himself, of course).
Daniel especially loved Green Bay Packer Sundays and spending time with family and friends; he will be missed by all of his loved ones.

He is survived by his loving fiancé, Paula Stuller; four children, Carolyn Barker-Bowman and wife Ruth of Madison, WI, Richard Barker of Milwaukee, WI, Lisa Barker of Madison, WI and Jennifer Barker of Madison, WI; five sisters, Mary Barker of Green Bay, WI, Jean Bachman and husband Mike of Denmark, WI, Roz Barker and Kim Poli of Green Bay, WI, Joanne Johnson of Wauwatosa, WI and Nancy Barker and husband Todd Kroscher of Two Rivers, WI; one brother, Bob Barker and wife Laura of Milwaukee, WI; one grandchild, Cameron Barker of Madison, WI; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held in Florida and Wisconsin.
