Daniel Thomas Fitzgerald
Daniel Thomas Fitzgerald, 68, a resident of Cape Coral, FL for the past ten years, formerly of Royersford, PA, passed away Tuesday, November 17, 2020 in Cape Coral. He was born April 1, 1952 in Philadelphia, PA to Raymond and Eleanor Fitzgerald, now deceased.
Dan was raised in the Catholic faith. He grew up on the Jersey shore where he enjoyed going to the beach and surfing. He graduated from Wildwood Catholic High School in 1970. He then attended LaSalle University in Philadelphia where he obtained a BA in Sociology with a minor in Psychology, graduating in 1974. Later, he attended Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida where he obtained his MBA while working nights at American Express in 1987.
Dan went on to have a successful business career with over 37 years of experience in operations, including 29 years in market research specifically serving the pharmaceutical and healthcare markets, both domestically and internationally. Over the course of his career, his responsibilities encompassed all aspects of operations including customer service, finance, legal, field services, human resources and information technology. He played an important role in successful market research start-up companies as well as management of operations in the international arena. His business partners and co-workers say he was the glue that held them together.
Dan spent years of his life traveling the world, tanning on the beach, and playing golf. He enjoyed good music (preferably the Grateful Dead or Jimmy Buffet) and a good sunset. He was an avid Philadelphia sports fan and was able to watch the Phillies win the World Series in person with both of his daughters in 2008. He celebrated again when the Eagles pulled out a Superbowl win in 2018. Dan had a sweet tooth and would never turn down ice cream, a piece of chocolate, or key lime pie.
For the last many years, Dan battled with the autoimmune disease Crohn’s. This didn’t stop him from engaging in post-retirement consulting work, which he very much enjoyed. He also loved spending time with his grandsons swimming and playing in the pool and giving them tickle bugs. Dan was a kind, loving soul who found joy in helping his kids do whatever they needed him to do – whether it was fixing a computer, helping them set up a new kitchen appliance, repairing a broken toilet, or offering guidance on purchasing their homes or cars.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Nancy Fitzgerald of Cape Coral; two loving daughters, Megan Martinez (Fernando) of Cooper City, FL, and Kelly Junco (Fernando) of Cape Coral; as well as four grandchildren, Adrian, Kieran, Devin, and Alonso (on the way).
Daniel was preceded in death by a brother, Michael Fitzgerald.
A small family celebration of life will be held in December.
Memorial Contributions in memory of Daniel Thomas Fitzgerald are suggested to:
- Eagles Charitable Foundation – making free vision screenings, eye exams and prescription glasses accessible to under-insured and uninsured children in the Greater Philadelphia area.
- Ben & Jerry’s Foundation – to engage Ben & Jerry’s employees in philanthropy and social change work; to give back to Vermont communities; and to support grassroots activism and community organizing for social and environmental justice around the country.
- The Jerry Garcia Foundation – a nonprofit that supports environmental, artistic and humanitarian causes through the beauty of music and art.
Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.

Sorry to hear that Noah Pines
I knew Dan for many years and he was a wonderful friend. My most cherished memory is when he and I went to see the flyers and we talked about everything in life that was important to us.
I just learned of his passing today Christmas Eve and I am very saddened. He was a great man and I look forward to when I meet him again. God bless everyone and I hope to live the life that Danny lived.
Just heard the news about Dan’s passing. Surprised and saddened. I worked with Dan as an IT consultant at V2 and kept in touch over the years since. We had many talks about family and life. He adored his wife and daughters and was very proud of them. He was a fine professional, a straight-shooter, and an honest friend. May God bless and care for his family and may Dan rest in peace. Amen.
