David “Caveman” Merril Hall

April 17, 1954 - June 3, 2021

David “Caveman” Merril Hall, 67, a resident of Lake Placid, FL, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 3, 2021 in Sebring, FL. He was born April 17, 1954 in Del Norte, CO to Roy “Cactus” and Kathryn “Katie” Hall, now deceased.

David was a truck driver, and his CB handle when he moved from the mountains of Colorado to the flatlands of Florida was “The Colorado Caveman”. The “Caveman” handle stuck long after cell phones replaced CBs. David knew everyone, and every truck. He never passed through town without flashing his lights at a trucker, honking at a pickup, or shouting out to a pedestrian. He talked with everyone, and he always had a story to tell.

He is survived by siblings, Rex Hall of Benbrook, TX, Elmer Hall of DeLand, FL and Karie Hall-Dunn of Tampa; stepson, Jeff Beard (Julie, and daughter, Nicole); as well as several nephews and one niece.

A special thank you to David’s caregivers, Kelly, Sarah and Christine for all they did to help him remain in his home.

Now David “Caveman” is in a better place, where the roads are clear, and there are no speed traps.

Memorial Contributions in memory of David Merril Hall are suggested to help pay for Lindsey Sapp’s medical bills at Wauchula State Bank, 102 E. Interlake Blvd., Lake Placid, FL 33852.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.

Condolences to all the family members. David aka Caveman had a gruff exterior but he had a teddybear heart. He will be miss by many people and I am sure he touched many in various ways. God Bless and Rest in Peace. Hope your sitting at Gods table with a huge Mexican meal you were so fond of eating.

We will miss David immensely, but know he is in a better place, free at last to go hunting and exploring the mountains from our childhood.

David was the Salt of the Earth. A friend to all who knew him. A Lake Placid legend to many. May he have Godspeed and a fast truck as he moves forward.

A great neighbor for many years.
He taught my kids so much about fixing things yourself.
My son still will not start a mower without checking the oil first.
    Caveman you will be missed.
I will meet you at the fence!
