David Eugene Thompson

January 27, 1957 - April 29, 2020

David Eugene Thompson, 63, a resident of Fort Myers Beach since 1999, formerly of Sandusky, OH, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020 at his home in Fort Myers Beach. He was born January 27, 1957 in Sandusky, OH to Richard and Jean Thompson, now deceased.

David was of the Lutheran faith and was a 1975 graduate of Sandusky High School.

Whether in Ohio or Florida, he loved being by the water and enjoyed boating.

David was involved with various aspects of building and construction throughout his career. 

While in Sandusky, he owned and operated Thompson Builders and worked for Capitol Aluminum and Glass, Bellevue, and Koch Aluminum, Sandusky.

He is survived by two loving children, Chrissy Wilson (Jason) of Bend, OR, and Cory Thompson of Sandusky, OH; sister, Patricia Volz (David) of Sandusky, OH; niece, Clare Volz of Dublin, OH; one granddaughter, Eleanor Wilson of Bend OR; and the mother of his children, Cindy (Al) Stoll of Sandusky, OH.

    I am so very sorry for your loss. Dave moved into the condo my brother rick graves lived in before we moved him up to Columbus due to illness. He will truly be missed

    We are very sorry for your loss! Dave was a great guy, he rented our home on Ft.Myers Beach for about 6 years. Then he and Kathy rented next door when we moved to our home for the winter. Haven’t seen him too often in the past few years.

    I met Dave in January while caring for an elderly lady at ft. Myers beach. From the day we met, we spent 9 days together everyday and did we ever enjoy one another’s company. Swimming, walking the beach, and hangin out at the mermaid..
    I had to come back to Ohio, and was planning on returning for a visit with Dave in May..
    rip Dave.

    So saddened to hear of Dave’s passing. My wife Debbie and I send our prayers and condolences to his family. It was always nice to sit at the dock and chat with Dave, he definitely had some funny stories to tell and he loved his beach life. He was definitely well-liked at the beach by everyone and he will be missed by all. RIP Mr. Dave!!

    Thank you everyone for all your kind comments – here, through Facebook and through email. It has been wonderful to see the various sides of my brother. I have particularly enjoyed the insights on his life in Florida. All of the comments put a smile in my heart. Hard to believe he’s been gone a whole week already. My mother always said “he’s your little brother, you have to take care of him”. I guess that’s her job again in heaven as he has joined both our parents there.

    I HAD THE PLEASURE OF KNOWING DAVE AND WORKING WITH HIM AT MANY OF THE CONDO COMPLEX’S THAT HE WORKED AT. ALWAYS A SMILE AND A STORY OF THE BEACH TO SHARE. PRAYERS TO FAMILY. HE WILL BE MISSED BY HIS BEACH FRIENDS.
