Donald Francis McDade

November 29, 1932 - January 20, 2020

Donald Francis McDade, 87, a seasonal resident of Cape Coral, FL since 2017, formerly of Rolling Meadows, IL, passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 in Cape Coral. He was born November 29, 1932 in Chicago, IL to Wilber and Marianne McDade, now deceased.

Donald attended St. Therese Catholic Church in North Fort Myers. He grew up in Chicago, IL along with 9 brothers and sisters.  He served our country during the Korean conflict, returned to Chicago and was most proud of the time he spent as a Chicago firefighter at the Wrigleyville firehouse, Engine 78. He retired in 1992 from the City of Rolling Meadows, IL where he was the Chief Building Inspector.  After retirement, he and Joyce traveled throughout the US in their 5th wheel and later made his winter home in Arizona, wintering in Florida beginning in2017.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 31 years, Joyce McDade of Cape Coral and Rolling Meadows, IL; two loving children, Mark McDade (Cheryl) of Castle Pines, CO, and Denise Leider (Dan) of Elgin, IL; five siblings, Juanita “Sis” Heber, Patricia Price, Kathleen Flowers, Terrence McDade, Michael McDade; son in law, Dan Gilday; six grandchildren, Katherine Traynor, Andrew Leider, Maxwell McDade, Taylor Turner, Kevin Turner, and Timothy Lancaster; as well as three great grandchildren, Nevaeh Turner, Athena Turner, and Aurora Turner.

Donald was preceded in death by a daughter, Kelley Gilday; as well as four siblings, Wilbur McDade, Eugene McDade, John McDade, and Marianne “Mutz” Sylvester.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM Friday, January 24, 2020 at the clubhouse of The Entrada on Del Prado Blvd. North, Cape Coral, FL 33909.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Illinois in the spring.  Further details will be forthcoming.
