Donna Kay Tanner

March 3, 1939 - January 12, 2022

Donna Kay Tanner, 82, a longtime resident of Fort Myers, formerly of Beckley, passed away January 12, 2022, in Fort Myers. She was born March 3, 1939, in Beckley, WV to Russell and Emma Miller, now deceased. 

Donna, otherwise known as Kay, was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt throughout numerous decades of her life. She has resided in Lee County for more than 60 years and was well known and dearly loved within her community. Kay fulfilled an occupational career for 30 plus years with Lee County Clerk of Courts where she came to retire.

Kay is survived by her loving son, Russell Miller (Betty) of Edgewater, FL; grandchildren, Jay A. Tanner, Jr., Chris Tanner, Shannon Tanner Wegmann, Jessica Tanner Castleberry, and Ward Tanner; eight great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, William Joshua Tanner, Stanley Tanner (Theresa); nieces, Jeanette Tanner Ellis, Niki Tanner Black, Julie Thompson, Selena Melton; as well as nephews, Joshua Tanner, Sean Tanner, and Timmy Tanner.

Her beloved grandson, Jay A. Tanner, Jr., leaves behind these words. “My grandmother was a very strong woman. She endured more than most people do in a lifetime. I owe much of my successes to her and I am forever grateful for her undying, unconditional love. May she be at rest with her husband and three sons.”


With extended love from Kay’s niece, Jeanette Tanner Ellis, sharing the words “I carry you in my heart.”

Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Alan Tanner, Jr.; three sons, Alan Tanner, III, Jay Tanner and Ward Tanner; nephew, Stanley Tanner, Jr.; as well as her brother-in-law, Jack Tanner.

A Graveside Service will be held 4:00 PM, Friday, January 21, 2022, at the Fort Myers City Cemetery, 3200 Michigan Ave, Ft. Myers, with Sean Tanner officiating. 

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Fort Myers, is entrusted with final care.

    So sorry to just hear about Kay’s passing. I worked with her at the Clerk’s Office. My deepest sympathy to her family. She was always a lot of fun and we shared many laughs together.
