Douglas Charles Martin

May 22, 1967 - May 27, 2020

Douglas Charles Martin, 53, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 1972, formerly of Camp Geiger in Jacksonville, NC, and Michigan passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in Fort Myers, FL. He was born May 22, 1967 in Colorado Springs, CO.

Above all, this man does not need an introduction, to put it simply; he lived by a strict code “Go big or Go home”. Douglas was of the Christian faith and was a member of the Church of the USMC. Doug bravely served in the United States Marines from 1987-1991, “Once a Marine always a Marine”. This man worked his entire life for his loved ones. Between swing shifts as a shift supervisor for over 24 years being a part of the Covanta family; as well as a longtime member of the volunteer force at NFMJFA, and NFMLL, North H.S. and Island Coast H.S. (just to name a few), he always gave 110% and expected no less from everyone else. He believed in coaching all kids on and off the field to the best of their ability with no quarter given. He was an outstanding member of the community that influenced everyone he encountered. Doug dedicated his legacy to the love and fulfillment of his family. Spending every minute of his life ensuring the betterment of everyone around him; Douglas was genuinely loved and should be immortalized as a community role model and someone all walks of life should strive to be. Douglas Martin: Man, Myth, Legend!

He is survived by his beloved wife of 30 years, Andrea Martin of Cape Coral; loving parents, Charles and Gail Martin of Glennie, MI; mother in law, Beryl Hutson of Rockford, IL; four loving children, Devon Martin and fiancé, Corey Eberle of Cape Coral, Chelsea James and Bryan James of Cape Coral, Darian Martin of Cape Coral, and Garrett Martin, also of Cape Coral; sister, Leslie Logsdon & husband Donald of Cape Coral; three grandchildren, Logan, Kade, and Cayson; as well as nieces and nephews, Kayla, Joseph, Angellea, Hannah, Rose, Linsey, Joshua and Nathan, as well as all the extended children and families we call our own.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, the 3rd of June, at NFM Knights football field, 2021 Tamiami Trail N., North Fort Myers, Fl 33903 with Pastor Jorge Acevedo officiating.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Douglas Charles Martin are suggested to Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS  66675.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Fort Myers, is entrusted with final care.

Mr. Doug was such a stand up guy. I met him at the baseball field at Webber and I could instantly tell he was a great man. He always took pictures during baseball games and even took a few of the softball team. I’ll never forget when he bought our entire team pizza after one of our big wins. We told him it wasn’t necessary, but he didn’t think twice about it. Just a man who wanted to make people smile through his kind actions.

My thoughts and prayers are with my friend Garret and the Martin family during this difficult time. Remember all the good he did and smile when he crosses your mind.

No words can heal the pain of his loss. We can only remember him as the man he was.
A man that always strives to be the best he could.
A supervisor who worked side by side with his peers. Sometimes taking on tasks himself to keep others away from harm.
A friend who would give you the shirt off of his back, if he thought it would help.
A man cut from a cloth very few others are of. One of honor, of pride in his country, and of selflessness.
A man who will be truly missed.
My deepest condolences to all the family.

Our most sincere and deepest condolences and prayers to the Martin family and all those who feel the pain of his loss. As Doug would surely understand, those of us in the early days at Lee, were like a band of brothers, and neither time nor distance can tarnish the bonds we forged. Clearly Doug’s legacy is one for all to aspire to, and the strength and honor of his character are proven by the respect and love of those he has left behind. Rest in peace Doug, and God bless!

My sincerest condolences to Dougs family. When I ran into Doug again many years into our adult hood at the Edison Pageant Parade, he made an impact on me with the love he shared for his wife and family. I have not met many that immediately share the joy and love for their spouse and children as Doug shared with me. Peace to all.
