Dwayne Richard Mendenhall

June 25, 1977 - October 20, 2019

Dwayne Richard Mendenhall, 42, a resident of Cape Coral, FL for the past 15 years, formerly of Miami, FL, passed away Sunday, October 20, 2019 in Cape Coral. He was born June 25, 1977 in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Dwayne was of the Catholic faith. He was a devoted husband, father, brother and son! He lived life to its fullest and was forever a child at heart! He will be remembered for his infectious smile and laughter, for his eagerness to lend a helping hand, and for his amazing heart. Those who were honored to know him will forever carry him in their hearts.

Growing up he was the life of the party… (and usually the D.J.), he is remembered for his jams and his versatile group. He loved his boys and their bond was indestructible.

He was a business owner and had wonderful customer service and was known for his trustworthiness. He had a vivacious personality and made friends wherever he went.

He loved to fish, hang out with his friends and most of all he treasured his children. He always thought of his family and friends first. He was a family man who served as the head of many households which included his mother and aunt, whom he loved dearly. He also carried an amazingly strong and immense love and admiration for his beautiful sister who was his biggest fan!! His wife and children were always his first concern!

It is with sad hearts that we learned how many lives he truly touched. We would like to thank all our family and friends for their support these last few weeks, although many of us were separated by time and distance, Dwayne was genuinely aware of all the love and support that was offered to him! We believe that this outpouring of love is what helped usher him peacefully home.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years, Rebecca Mendenhall of Cape Coral; loving mother, Victoria Mendenhall of Miami;  two loving children, Reagan Mendenhall and Aiden Mendenhall, both of Cape Coral; sister, Anna- Marie Roswald (Raymond) of Ridge Manor, FL; as well as an aunt, Claudette Aboud.

Dwayne was preceded in death by his father, Richard Mendenhall.

A Funeral Mass will be held 12:00 PM Saturday, October 26, 2019 at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church, 1922 SW 20th Ave., Cape Coral, FL 33991 with Father Lawton Lang officiating. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Mullins Memorial, 3654 Palm Beach Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33916, prior to the funeral.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Dwayne Richard Mendenhall are suggested to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Cir., Fort Myers, FL 33908.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.

You will forever and always be our brother. You are the reason we became the band of brothers over the last 25 years plus. It’s impossible to imagine what life will be for us without you. I miss your infamous laugh already. You gave more love than you cared to recieve, and you always made sure we were all okay even when you weren’t. We are The Versatile Crew because of you. No one worked harder than you to keep us together. As a son, you are your mother’s and Aunt’s heart. As a brother, you are your sister’s guardian angel. As a husband, you are your wife’s everything. As a father, you are your children’s hero, and as our friend, you are our unity. Love you always brother.

  23. Mark P Kelly Oct 22, 2019 at 9:58 pm

I consider myself lucky to have been part of his life. His character was addictive. You loved being around him and he loved you being around. He cared about everything and nothing simultaneously. He made forgetfulness charming but remembered that shared moment that you’d let slip. His smile was contagious. His voice comforting. Few could pour out their soul or fill a dancefloor quite like him. We were all lucky to be part of his life, as he will always be a part of ours.

Dwayne was the greatest of guys. I was happy to see in the other memories of Dwayne that he was the same in my experience as he was to everyone else. He was kind, patient and diligent in all he did for my office. We all enjoyed Dwayne and looked forward to working with him on a regular basis. Recently, I was blessed to visit him and meet some of his family. I got to hear wonderful stories of Dwayne and see how much they loved him. Dwayne kept up his sense of humor and even cracked a couple jokes during my visit. He was looking forward to going home and being with friends and family.

Dwayne, you are very special and I will miss you.

My first true friend. My brother, growing up with you I didn’t let no one come close to messing with you. Your friendship meant the world to me growing up and going to The Baby Ridge together, from Band to all the crazy things we did together that made us laugh uncontrollably. My heart is truly broken. Our promise still stands, “Brothers for Life” I will see you again in Heaven. Love you Gabe.
