Eleanor L. Baker

Eleanor L. Baker, 97, a resident of Bokeelia, FL, formerly of Lima, OH, passed on peacefully with a sweet smile on her beautiful face, Saturday, June 12, 2021 at her daughter Beth’s home in Bokeelia. She was born May 18, 1924 in Cleveland, OH to Vid and Josephine Jansik.

Eleanor was of the “invincible” World War II generation; stoic, strong, hardworking, and fun loving. Those who knew her, held her class and grace in high esteem. She will be remembered for the beauty she always saw in God’s world about her.

Special thanks to her granddaughter Jessica, who was a tireless caregiver.

Eleanor was preceded in death by husband, George Baker in 1977; sister, Dolly Ketvertis; as well as grandson Nicholas Taflinger.

Private family services will be held at a later date in Lima, OH, when she is brought “home” for burial in Gethsemani Cemetery.

I will always remember “Miss Ellie”. She was always smiling and laughing as she told stories of her life. I appreciated the way she made me feel like family when we would all be together for the holidays.

My condolences to Lori, Beth, Greg, and the Baker family. The loss is real, but her smile has to brighten up her Heavenly Home! Her flowers surely brightened her earthly home in Lima where she loved her flowers, watered them, maybe even talked to them! They responded to the attention that she gave them in spades! I regret, as her landlord, that I did not take pictures of Eleanor with her flowers! That was almost a sin, as I look back! God blessed Eleanor with many years! She blessed others with her smile and attitude that said “never give up”! I am so blessed to have known Eleanor and some of her family. I wonder if she is smiling at her flowers in Heaven as they smile back at her while we are sad that she is gone?
