Eugene “Gene” Daniel Feliciano, 49, a resident of Lee County, FL for the past 13 years, formerly of Miami, FL, passed away Friday, June 26, 2020 in North Fort Myers, FL. He was born March 23, 1971 in Wayne, MI.

Eugene was the type of person who was of the idea that everyone deserved a second chance. He gave to others who were in need regardless if he had it to give away. Gene believed family was very important and he was proud to be able to walk his youngest children to school everyday, cheer on all 4 of his own children plus his nieces and nephews for their achievements and work side by side with his father everyday at the Feliciano farm. He was well known by many and would utilize the family farm to give back to the families in his community. Gene felt that living life to the fullest was the sole purpose of living! His passions in life included relaxing in the hammock under his tiki hut and visiting his beloved Puerto Rico. Gene’s smile and laughter would light up the room, and with his passing there will be an incomprehensible void that nobody will fill. He will be missed by so many!

Eugene is survived by his beloved wife of 14 years, Flor Teuta of North Fort Myers; loving parents, Eugenio and Jo Ann Feliciano of Cape Coral, FL; four children, Eugene Feliciano, Jr. (Samantha Mercado) of Boynton Beach, FL, Elijah Feliciano, Jazmine Feliciano and Leo Feliciano of North Fort Myers; three siblings, Denise Hatkow (Jay), Annette Feliciano-Zavalaga (Jose), and Kevin Feliciano as well as his mother and father in law, Eyda Flor Calderon and Miguel Teuta, of Colombia. He leaves behind many Aunts, Uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

Private family services will be held.

Details for a future planned Celebration of life to follow for the many friends, business associates and extended family to be able to pay their final respects.

Words can not express how much we will miss you Gene. Thank you for every adventure, good laugh, help, and for just being you. There will never be another person like you on this earth.

“Not how did he die, but how did he live?

Not what did he gain, but what did he give?

These are the units to measure the worth
Of a man as a man, regardless of birth.

Not, what was his church, nor what was his creed?

But had he befriended those really in need?

Was he ever ready, with word of good cheer, To bring back a smile, to banish a tear?

Not what did the sketch in the newspaper say, But how many were sorry when he passed away.”

My heart is broken for Flor, their children, both families and all that knew and loved him.
I had met him only once and spent the day with him Flor and the children.
I had told my sister what a great day that was and how so very nice he was.
    God bless all of you!💙🙏

My cousin Gene was the coolest kid. I say kid because I had the best summer of my life way back in 1986. That summer, we were inseparable. Although, it has been over 30 years, it stands out as the most memorable, and best time of my teen years. Gene will always live in my memory as my cool cousin from Miami with all the friends.

We will miss Gene terribly as a neighbor and friend. He helped us so much with our preschool, not only when we first opened it in 2017, but on a continual basis. Whenever we needed help, Gene was the first one we would ask because he ALWAYS jumped right in there with a smile on his face and tools in his hands. He showed hundreds of our little preschoolers round his delightful farm, he gave them hayrides, let them find freshly laid eggs, ride the pony, pet the goats, and plant sugar cane. Thanks to him, these children have had wonderful early childhood experiences they would otherwise never have had..
It is so hard carrying on there without him. He was such an integral part of all that we love about rural life in North Fort Myers.

  12. Matthew Feliciano Jul 31, 2020 at 10:29 pm

Gene is my cousin, My family. He was probably one of the nicest people to walk the earth. Never did he have a coarse word to say to someone. Always, no matter what greeted you with a smile.

At least from my 34 years of experience on this earth that is. This is coming from someone who had a lot of disagreements with Gene. I know for a fact if he really had nothing nice to say to you, he would rather not speak to you. I have to say, that earns some respect.

You see though the thing is we had a tremendous amount in common as well. His name Eugene Daniel Feliciano next to my name, Matthew Daniel Feliciano. Daniel is my fathers name. Our heritage above all else. I mostly saw him at family gatherings a few times a year.

Ask anyone, you would always find me outside alone talking shit with Gene. We we’re not close, but I loved my cousin and he will be missed. I promise you that.

I still can’t wrap my head around this senseless tragedy. Gene – you are deeply missed. Thank you, for always being genuine. Thank you, for loving your family as deeply as you did. Thank you, for always treating everyone with respect and kindness. I know you are up in Heaven with my father and I hope you are enjoying a good game of dominoes with him. RIP, Primo <3

Gene will be missed dearly! He was a man of honor and integrity. He was an exceptional provider for his family and would do anything he could to help someone who needed it. He was taken too soon! God bless him and those he left behind.

where to even begin? to express my deep love for you and your family. to put my gratitude into words of all the lessons i learned from you. by your example, your very way of life.. like when you provided a home to that lady who told me she would be homeless (with her 10yroldson).. without your kindness! giving her a place to live right there next to your own house! always giving EVERYONE second and third chances (even the one who turned on you) because you believed, you knew, that people CAN change. Watching you live every single moment out loud and loving boldly. lessons you learned because of the time you spent repaying your debt to society as a teenager/young man! you were wise beyond your years, Gene. & lived every single moment to it’s fullest.. i saw how you became a new man. a changed man. spending the last 25 years of your beautiful life loving every person who needed it most. each day spent on that farm, working side by side with your father and your son. a loving husband of 14 years. walking your youngest children to school EVERY single day & savoring the most important things in life…laughter, family and love. you were such a giver, in the truest sense of the word. how do i say goodbye to such a light in my heart. such a bright star on this earth.? no, no goodbyes. it’s until we meet again. shine on, shine bright, you crazy diamond.

    My dear Brother “Gene”,
Where do I begin, from the moment I was born, you filled the big brother shoes…loving me, taking care of me, bickering with me, harassing me- like big brothers do, and supporting me but always loving me as your “netter-boo”! Even when we didn’t agree, there was a respect for each others opinion. You had your passions in life and I had mine but we always agreed that family was the most important. Many times that Mom was sick, we shared the responsibility of caring for her. We always agreed that her health was the most important part and we All (You, me and Kevin) “stepped in” To advocate for Ma When she couldn’t do it for herself! This last February when we went to PR with Dad, it was unforgettable…I’m glad we got that gift that will truly be unforgettable. You leave a large void that can never be Filled.
I miss you my brother! Please take care of Mom and I will do my best to take care of your babies and Dad! I miss you and will forever love you big bro! Rest in paradise with Mom! ❤️❤️

Gene was a devoted Christian, father and friend to all who knew him. Countless lives were made better for having known him. A true gentleman, he was never too busy to help others and give whatever or however he could.
Countless times, he was of great assistance to his elderly family members.

His loss will be provoundly felt by us all

  20. Emily Feliciano Aug 4, 2020 at 1:04 pm

Our nephew Gene was an excellent person and a beloved family member. He never missed a family gathering and was always ready to encourage and help those in need. I don’t know how someone could take his life without cause and not be brought to justice. I appeal to the authorities and state attorney to do a thorough investigation. We want justice for our nephew!
    Sincerely
    Uncle Vic and Aunt Emily

  21. Jade Scalero Aug 4, 2020 at 4:35 pm

    Gene,
My nephew that was a cousin & mire like brother to my daughter Pam.
We will always remember your smile, including everyone you around you with that contagious laugh. You would always answer my calls when my landscaping was to much for me to deal with, trimming my big trees for me & giving me new ones that you planted for me because knew I would love the surprise! You were an important part of our lives, & will be dearly missed. Enjoy being in Glory with our Lord & other loved ones that have gone before. Please know how much you are loved💞

  22. Jonathan and Ashley Parker Aug 4, 2020 at 7:23 pm

You were loved so deeply by all who knew you. I’m so sad that this is reality. You will live on by your family. You will live on by beautiful memories shared. This earth has lost someone precious. Heaven has gained an Angel. Love the Parkers

  23. JoAnn Rockhold Aug 4, 2020 at 8:25 pm

I am so sorry for your family’s loss. Justice needs to be served, so the family can grieve the void left in their hearts. Please know, my family is praying for you all❤️

  24. Priscilla Feliciano Aug 4, 2020 at 8:30 pm

I have only positive things to say about Gene. He was genuine in his interactions with you. Every time I saw him I was greeted with a smile and excitement. He always showed up for every major family event. He loved his family whole heartedly. He always made a point to stop by to see my parents when we was in town and called them often to see how they were. I spoke to him the week before he passed and he was preparing land in Puerto Rico for a project he was doing. I told him husband I wanted to go visit “but only when Gene is there.” I am truly saddened to hear his life was taken so tragically. He will be missed.

  25. Melba Sluder Aug 5, 2020 at 9:51 pm

Eugene was a Great Devoted Father, Husband and Son. Family was his life. He will be greatly missed. To know him was to love him. He always looked out for the underdog. He would reach out to strangers He would litterly give you the shirt off his back.

  26. Kim Jean Aug 6, 2020 at 4:57 am

I was so angry when I heard about this, I am so sorry for your family’s loss. I didnt know even what to say,as I know no words could help! I read all the comments. It seems as if he was a wonderful person and a great dad. I wish I had known him as he was my cousin, but time and space separate people and some cousins you never really get to know! How sad! I had recently talked to Jo before this had happened, and now Jo too. I know they are together and hear your prayers. God bless sweet people like them, because us people still here will miss them like crazy.

  28. Debbie Browning Aug 6, 2020 at 7:45 pm

It is indeed a great loss for this family to lose such a fine young man. Eugene was a caring loving and dedicated husband, father, son, and brother. Eugene did not allow any past mistakes keep him back. Instead he learned from them and progressed forward giving him the ability to have love and compassion for others. Especially those who were having a difficult time. Eugene was a hard worker and was very proud of his family’s accomplishments. He was a dedicated young man in his faith, his community, his family, friends, and any stranger that he would meet. We have lost a truly remarkable young man that can never be replaced! Although his life was tragically ended in this world, he has now received a spiritual Glory with his Heavenly Father and all his loved ones that went before him. Till we meet again Eugene!

  29. Kayla Harrell Aug 6, 2020 at 8:55 pm

Uncle Gene was a truly wonderful man. His home was the most welcoming place in the world, and he was the heart and soul of it. I am deeply saddened by the loss of one of the kindest and most joyous people I have ever been lucky enough to know. He was taken from this world far too soon, and his passing has left a hole in my family that can never be filled. He will be missed by so many people whose lives he has uplifted, and I am certainly among them. He was always a force for good, with an easy smile and an enthusiasm for life that seemingly knew no bounds. His passing is a great tragedy, and his posthumous treatment by the legal system is an even greater injustice. Rest in peace, Uncle Gene. May you never be forgotten.

  30. SaraJade Harrell Aug 6, 2020 at 9:15 pm

Although I was not as close to him as most of the family, I was still treated as though I had been there for each and every family event when I went to the farm; I still felt an inexplicable amount of acceptance. During a brief stay in Puerto Rico, he promptly dropped what he was doing to catch a flight back down (despite having recently left) upon being notified of us being there. Even though he only spent a day with us, the moments we were all together were irreplaceable, and no one there expected those to be our last. While I cannot begin to comprehend the amount of people he has helped and everything he has done, I do understand he was an amazing person who contributed above and beyond anybody’s standard expectations. He changed the lives of so many for the better- always offering chances to anyone and everyone who needed them. <3
I hope he receives the justification he deserves, despite the system necessary for said justification being dreadfully unfair and severely biased.

  31. Andrew Ladd Aug 6, 2020 at 9:32 pm

I can only aspire to the openness and kindness that Gene showed every day, helping family and strangers alike. His charm, his dreams and his stories will always remain in my memory. Gene was one of the great ones. He left behind the turbulence and decisions of his teenage and young man years, determining instead to grew from the mistakes of youth. Focusing on family and on love. Love of the land, love of his people, love of life and of another chance. I will see his smile in every sunrise.

It is unfathomable that someone who Gene gave a chance when no one else would is the one who turned on him. Someone that he brought onto his land and with whom he broke bread turned and stole from him, threatened his family and ultimately took his life. If what is right still holds any meaning in this world, there must be Justice for Gene.

  32. Bekah Scalero Aug 9, 2020 at 5:26 pm

Gene loved and cared for his entire, very large family, no matter how distant they were. He always went out of his way to help, no matter what the need was. He was taken from his family too soon, and will be severely missed. I think of you often, and will always remember you, cousin Gene.

  33. Laurie Babcock Aug 11, 2020 at 3:55 pm

Gene was such a wonderful man, husband and father and our family is heartbroken for your loss. The first time Ains and I met him was at Jaz’ birthday party two years ago. Gene gave us a tour from the sugar cane to the animals, teaching us both about a working farm, bee behavior, and how to feed the pony. We were looking forward to having the family over for dinner again this summer. Gene was a kind and generous man who walked his kids to and from school every day and helped his extended family. He was taken far too soon and will be missed by literally everyone who knew him.
    In sympathy, the Babcock family

  34. Pamela Feliciano Aug 11, 2020 at 8:09 pm

There is a hole shot into the heart of our family. A senseless act of gun violence has left us shattered and reeling. My cousin. My little brother. A boy I called baby gene has been cut down in the prime of his precious and beautiful life. He lived close to the earth. loved out loud and so large. was a giver. a child of God and a lover of all of His creation. there are no words to express the black depth of this loss.
