George E. Wideman

May 10, 1936 - December 3, 2018

George Ernest Wideman, 82, a resident of Fort Myers and Cape Coral, FL for the past 20 years, formerly of Redford, MI, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 in Fort Myers. He was born May 10, 1936 in Detroit, MI to William and Emma Wideman, now deceased.

George was a senior engineer in the automotive parts industry and held several degrees and licenses. Prior to his retirement, he designed, built, and installed complex machinery to various automotive manufacturing plants throughout the world. He took great pleasure in spending time with his family and friends; and making others happy. Always eager to experience other countries and cultures, whether sailing the Mediterranean or singing in a local pub, he joyously beamed. His smile will be remembered by all that knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 60 years, Ida Wideman of Fort Myers; three loving children, Marianne Plaskov (Harvey) of Lavonia, MI, Dennis Wideman of Detroit, MI, and Cynthia Zinger of Fort Myers, FL; sister, Carol Coors (John) of Seminole, FL; four grandchildren, Jim Kellepourey, III, Kelley Estep, Brian Wideman, and Katie Wideman; as well as one great granddaughter, Emma Estep.

No formal services are planned at this time.

    I worked with George for a number of years at Lear Corporation. George was a good person who was dedicated to his craft and very family orientated. Sorry to hear of his passing.

    George and I struck up friendship at Lear Corporation and I found him to be very personable, friendly and committed to his craft. Always willing to help other that did not have much knowledge in his craft To his Family, I’m so sorry for your loss
