Gwendolyn “Joy” Joyce Alexander

Gwendolyn “Joy” Joyce Alexander, 71, of Cape Coral, passed away Tuesday, August 19, 2014 in Cape Coral. She was born January 28, 1943 in Richmond Heights, MO to Forrest and Isla Crane, now deceased.

Joy was of the Episcopal faith. She grew up in Columbia, MO where she graduated from Hickman High School class of 1961 and attended the University of Missouri. She was involved in the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, 4-H and PTA while raising her four children. Joy was a passionate genealogist and family historian, sharing her knowledge and research with many. An avid knitter, she worked at Lucille’s in Columbia and taught knitting and crocheting. She also enjoyed sewing, needlework and weaving and could rarely be found without her hands busy on a special project. She shared a love of gardening with her husband and countless visits from her grandchildren. A fun and competitive game player, she enjoyed playing cards and board games with family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband of over 52 years, Bill Alexander of Cape Coral; four children, Alisa Biache (Andy) of Alexandria, VA, W. Brock Alexander (Kara) of St. George, UT, David Alexander (Donna) of San Clemente, CA and John Alexander (Alison) of Addis, LA; one brother, John Crane (Joy) of Wilbraham, MA; as well as 14 grandchildren, Kaitlin, David, Ryan, Allison, Anna, Adeline, Adam, Hannah, Shands, Sayre, Connor, Brady, Aiden, and Evan.

Private memorial services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions in memory of Joy Alexander are suggested to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Cir, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
