Helen Madeline Sylvia

June 2, 1940 - January 1, 2022

Helen Madeline Sylvia was born in New Bedford, MA to Alphonse and Helen Ver Cammen on June 2,1940. Helen passed away peacefully on January 1st 2022 at her home in Cape Coral, FL.  Helen worked as a nurse in her hometown. In 1979, she traveled to visit her son, Robert, overseas in Germany while he was in the military. In the early 80s, she frequented Bogota, Colombia to visit her daughter Susan, who was living abroad at the time. Afterwards she moved to Miami, FL. Helen earned the loving nickname “Mimi” from her two granddaughters, Yolanda, and Melissa.

Helen always brought the sunshine and a good time wherever she went. Throughout the years, she was very involved in church events, including those at Cape Vineyard Church. At Girl Scout camp, she enjoyed calling BINGO games and was lovingly known as “Cupcake.” She loved to travel and had memorable visits to New York City, Colorado, and a road trip to Virginia to visit her grandson, Ramir. At family gatherings, she youthfully participated in the backyard games and enjoyed BBQ’s. She loved cheering on the Boston Red Sox and the Miami Hurricanes.

Her positive energy and sparkling green eyes will be dearly missed. She loved her family and friends and instilled good values in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. As many have shared since her passing, Helen was not just a Mimi to some. She was a Mimi to all who knew her.

She is survived by her loving children, Robert Beaudoin (Rosario) of Cape Coral, and Susan M. Beaudoin (Dana Warrington) of Miami, FL; Son-in-Law, Efrain Hernandez of Miami; her loving ex Manuel “Sonny” Sylvia; brother, Frederick Ver Cammen (Ruth Ann) of Delaware; grandchildren, Yolanda Beaudoin (Clark), Melissa Fajardo (Paul), and Ramir Beaudoin; as well as great grandchildren, Alessia Fajardo, Sebastian Fajardo, and Luca Fajardo; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in her death by her parents, Alphonse and Helen Ver Cammen; and her brother, Johnny.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.
