Irene Cartagena

April 4, 1937 - May 14, 2021

Irene Cartagena, 84, a resident of Cape Coral for the past 6 years, formerly of Orlando, FL, and Puerto Rico, passed away Friday, May 14, 2021 in Cape Coral.  She was born April 4, 1937 in Ciales, Puerto Rico to Rafael and Dolores Reyes Pagan, now deceased. 

Irene was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church.   She was an accomplished seamstress with a unique eye for detail and beauty. She finished high school while taking care of her 4 children and husband. She was a dedicated mother and wife. But she also dedicated her life to God. She was a minister of the eucharist for more than 15 years, she taught adult bible studies and catechism for younger children. Her passion was attending church on Sundays and spending time with her family. She loved hosting dinners for all the family who visited her frequently. Irene was a hardworking woman who had incredible strength to help others in need. Irene loved her family first and foremost and always strived to provide the best for them even at her own sacrifice. She was the pillar of her home and will be missed terribly by her 4 children and her husband.

She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Vicente Cartagena; four loving children, Iris Cartagena (Jefferson Ramirez) of Aventura, FL, Edith Margie Cartagena (Miguel Dieguez) of Orlando, FL, Carmen E. Williams (Scott) of Cape Coral and Vincent Cartagena (Xiamaira Castillo) of Orlando, FL; eight siblings, Fela Reyes, Aurora Reyes, Lourdes Reyes, Candida Reyes, Fonsí Reyes, Lolo Reyes, Julio Reyes and Cheo Reyes; ten grandchildren as well as 16 great grandchildren. 

Irene was preceded in death by five siblings, Felipe Reyes, Pancho Reyes, Gelo Reyes, Luis Reyes and Tomas Reyes. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 12:30 PM Thursday, May 20, 2021 at St. Andrew Catholic Church, 2628 Del Prado Blvd, Cape Coral with Father Eduardo officiating.  The Family will accept friends for a time of visitation from 12:00 PM until the time of service.  Committal Services to follow at Fort Myers Memorial Gardens, 1589 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers, FL 33907.

    I loved you so much and I will continue to love you , you was my favorite person , when i came to visit you i expected the best hug in the world , your hugs were my reason to smile , the reason to keep my head up and knowing your gone hurts me you was my favorite person and still is i will always miss you it’s crazy i didn’t think i would lose you so soon , i still remember the times we had i really miss you so much .     Doña Irene nuestro corazón está roto pero sabemos que ya descansas en las manos de nuestro creador. Solo pido les des consuelo a Don Vincent, Iris, Pucho, Carmín y Margie pues no es fácil perder una madre como lo fuistes. Que Dios te de el descanso eterno y que siempre brille la Luz perpetua para ti. Te voy a extrañar mucho pues siempre por la mañana esperaba tu mensaje para intercambiar los míos contigo. RIP Doña Irene, vuela alto algún día nos volveremos a encontrar en el plano celestial.
