Janet Lee Cummings, 86, a resident of Cape Coral, FL for the past 10 years, formally a resident of Sewell, NJ and Levittown, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 20, 2022, surrounded by her children in her own bed at her son’s home in Cape Coral, FL. She was born on March 20, 1935 on her Grandparent’s farm in Edgely, PA to the late Henry Leo Neindorff and the late Esther Mae Abrams-Schaffer.

Janet was a long-time member of the Jesse W Soby VFW Post number 148. She always loved being involved with all of her children’s activities including Cub Scouts, MAA and followed her two youngest sons as they played football. As an active member of her community she was a blessing to many people. Janet loved animals and always had a kitten or puppy somewhere near her.

Janet was an avid reader of history and biographies and enjoyed sewing. Gardening was her passion of hers along with music and singing. Janet was a magnificent cook and she loved entertaining people.

She graduated Bristol High School in 1953. She met her father at her graduation and was excited to spend the next 3 years traveling the world. Janet and Bill loved the outdoors and were happiest when they were camping. They took many trips, but their favorites always included friends and family. The last two they took together was across the United States visiting as many national parks as possible.

In 1956 she settled down with her husband in Levittown Pennsylvania where she had four beautiful children.

Janet touched many lives during her career at Silver Lake Nursing home where she worked as an activity’s director. She also worked at O’Boyle’s, John Wannamaker, and Langhorne Speedway.

She is survived by her four children, Darryl S Cummings of Cape Coral, FL, Deborah L Blachly of Mays Landing, NJ, Douglas G Cummings (Kathleen) of Pennsburg, PA, and Dodd E Cummings (Marie) of Sicklerville,  NJ. She also was very close to and helped raise the two youngest siblings of her husband’s family, James Cummings (Patty), Langhorne, PA and Barbara J (Jeanne) Cummings, Bristol, PA.

She is also survived by four of her six brothers, E Thomas Schaffer of Oakhurst, CA, Raymond Schaffer (Bernice) of Bedford, PA, David Schaffer (Ruth) Levittown,  PA, and Richard Neindorff, Columbus, NJ; 5 of her 6 grandchildren, Bill Blachly (Tish) of Kingston, WA, Reid Cummings (Meghan) of Philadelphia,  PA, Leah Cummings of Sicklerville, Kelsey Cummings of Allentown and Ryan Cummings of West Chester, PA; as well as 3 great grandchildren, Atticus and Alfie Peterson of Kingston, WA and Ruby Faust of Allentown,  PA.

She was preceded in death by her adoring husband, William H Cummings (Bill). Truly a love story. They met for the first time when she was 10 and he was 12. Throughout childhood, they were always best friends. We lost Dad on February 24th, 2005. We know he was waiting for her when she passed.

She was also predeceased by two brothers, Robert Schaffer, (Evelyn) and Billy Schaffer and grandson, Shawn D Cummings.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.

Janet and I got to be great friends after she moved here to FL. We took art classes together, went out to lunch, went thrifting. And I would take her to Walmart and she loved to walk every single aisle. We had some great talks and the one thing she was sure about was the hereafter. And she wasn’t afraid of it. She was a strong woman with such a positive attitude. She never backed down from a challenge. I’m 1oo% sure she and Bill are laughing together right now. I will always treasure the time we spent together.
