Jerry B Bishop

Jerry Blaine Bishop, 77, a Lee County resident since 2002, formerly of Carmel, IN passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 in Cape Coral, FL. He was born October 15, 1939 in Newport, IN.

Jerry was a United States Navy Veteran. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Ft. Myers for many years. He graduated from Manual High School in Indianapolis, IN. After spending 4 years in the Navy, he returned home to Indy and after a few months there, he and his wife Nicole with their 2 daughters moved to Canada where she was from. While there, he worked for United Aircraft of Canada and their son Bryan was born in 1968. Shortly thereafter they moved back to Indiana and Jerry went to work as a sales Rep for Flexible Steel Lacing Co. and retired from that company in November 2000. Jerry was very goal oriented and accomplished a lot of them such as: racing midget cars, piloting his own airplanes and building a kit car (a ’32 Ford). After moving to Florida, Jerry wrote a book titled “A GIFT FROM GOD”, a story about his life and focusing on granddaughter Andrea who was born with Down syndrome. He and his wife have been raising Andrea (now 15 years old), since her Mother JoAnn died in 2005.

He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Nicole Bishop of Cape Coral, FL; his mother, Edith K. Goldman; two children, Lynn Bishop of Beverly Hills, FL and Bryan (Mindi) Bishop of Carmel, IN; one sister, Martha Ewing of Tipton, IN; ten grandchildren, Jeremy, Matthew, Thomas, Christopher, Ethan, Sadie, Ciara, Andrea, Molli and Graci; as well as one great grandson, Noah.

Jerry was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Bishop and daughter, JoAnn Bishop.

A Memorial Service will be held at 7:00 PM, Monday, November 14, 2016 at The First Christian Church of Ft. Myers, 2061 McGregor Boulevard, Ft. Myers, FL 33901 with Pastor Gary Cox officiating.
