Jerry H. Freel

December 11, 1932 - October 13, 2016

Jerry Hayes Freel, 83, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since 1992, formerly of Chicago, IL passed away Thursday, October 13, 2016 in Fort Myers, FL. He was born December 11, 1932 in Oak Park, IL to the late Steve Freel and Frances Carlson. Jerry was a descendant of former President Rutherford B. Hayes.

After retiring early from Walgreens Company in Deerfield, IL, he fulfilled his dream by living on a sail boat for four years and enjoyed his time boating and fishing. Jerry graduated from Bradley University. He was a member of The Royal Palm Yacht Club, the American Legion, and The Moose Lodge. He was a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Karen Freel of Cape Coral; two loving children, Elizabeth Schultz (Steve) of Goodyear, AZ and Steven Freel of Baltimore, MD; as well as two grandchildren, David and Laura Johnsen.

Jerry was preceded in death by two brothers, John Freel and Jim Freel.

A Celebration of Jerry’s Life will be held 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Friday, December 9, 2016 at Miceli’s Restaurant, 3930 Pine Island Rd, Matlacha, FL 33993.
