John Fusco

April 15, 1945 - March 5, 2022

John Fusco, 76, of Fort Myers, FL, and formerly of Northford, North Haven and New Haven, CT, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022 in Fort Myers. He was born April 15, 1945, to Louis and Carmina (Mattei) Fusco.

John was interested in mechanics from a young age taking things apart and putting them back together, much to his father’s concern and then surprise, that when reassembled, they worked. He was inspired by his father Louie whose skills varied in numerous areas and John followed suit. John was always busy and tinkering in his spare time. Professionally, he worked as a diesel mechanic and shop supervisor for Hertz Penske and Stop & Shop. On his off hours, he became versed in a number of other trades, if they served some purpose.  If he could figure something out to do it himself, he would.

He met his wife Barbara in high school and married her 4 years after. He’d help his wife with her store, Old Village Deli in Northford’s center.  Settling down in Northford, he built the family house with some help from Barbara’s father and uncle. He’d later add on doing most of work himself.  He was a loving father to two daughters, supported their endeavors, and tried to teach them everything he knew.

John was always ready to lend a helping hand or tool. Many came to him for help because they knew he’d already done it or tried it himself.  For fun, he enjoyed duck and deer hunting and fishing.  Later on, RV camping became the family favorite on weekends with John driving to the destination he selected up and down the Eastern seaboard. A campsite at Gardener Lake became a second home and boating brought new adventures and friends.  Going south was John’s plan for a comfortable retirement and he and his wife relocated to Fort Myers first on a part-time basis and later as full-timer’s. He enjoyed taking on his new set of projects in Florida and driving cross-country West sightseeing along the way.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Barbara Fusco of Fort Myers; two daughters, Jessica Pulskamp of Truckee, CA, and Amy Fusco of Branford, CT; brother, William Fusco of Burbank, CA; and three grandchildren, Zoe Fenn, Bryce Pulskamp and Vera Dippold.

John was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Maureen (Fusco) Zupka.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 am Saturday, March 12, 2022 at the Holiday Condos North, 16410 San Carlos Blvd. Ft. Myers, FL 33908.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Fort Myers, is entrusted with final care.

    Dear Barbara,Jesse and Amy,
We were so saddened to hear of John’s passing. We felt honored to call him friend and neighbors for over forty years. John was truly a one of a kind guy. He taught me that life wasn’t always about getting through something but the trip along the way. John had a quick wit and knew how to laugh and have fun. When I would go next door with a mechanical issue John would step back think about it and say Oh! I think I have a tool and a solution for that.
John’s love for Barbara was like none other. He would remind us that they were high school sweethearts and they would exchange glances and smile between them. . John was generous in his friendship and extended it to sharing stories of his girl’s accomplishments. John’s face would light up when he would tell us about his grandchildren. We are truly honored to have known and loved John. Rest In Peace our friend . God bless you and your family.
