I’ll never forget the time Grandpa and I made cookies in the kitchen of his new Florida home. We got along well together, he was quiet and kind and he loved to bake, all things that I loved to do. In all my time with him, I never heard him raise his voice to anyone over anything. As we were combining the ingredients in the mixing bowl, I began to measure the salt over top of the bowl, when he passionately yelled out for me to STOP and to NEVER measure out ingredients over the bowl. As a baker and cake decorator now, theres not a day that goes by that doesn’t make me think back at that moment with him and laugh. He helped to foster a love of baking in my life from the countless cooking shows he always had on in the house and Christmas cookie extravaganzas. He took me to Carlos Bakery for the first time in Hoboken, which was amazing for a young fan (even though the cake had wayr too much icing on it). I will always admire the strength and the fight that he had for many years. I will love and miss you every day, Grandpa.

Joe was Wolf Patrol leader in our Boy Scout Troop 99 in Babylon, NY in the 1950’s, and we met at his family’s house on Ketewamoke Avenue, where we also played touch football in his side yard.
