Joseph Gerald Salkowski

July 30, 1938 - June 5, 2014

Joseph Gerald Salkowski, 75, a longtime resident of Cape Coral, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 in Cape Coral. He was born July 30, 1938 to Joseph and Josephine Salkowski, now deceased.

Joseph was of the Catholic faith. He proudly served our country in the United States Army for 20 years. He served honorably in the Vietnam War from 1969 through 1970. After his return from the war, he served as an artillery instructor in AberdeenMaryland. He retired from the military in 1976 and moved to Cape Coral with his family. His many talents allowed him to pursue the vocations he loved such as master carpentry, photography and optics. He was a teacher at heart and instilled the same love of education in the hearts of his children. He attended HarfordCollege in Maryland and EdisonCollege in Florida. He will be remembered for his love for life, adventurous spirit and witty sense of humor. His spirit lives on in the hearts of his family.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Brigitte Salkowski, of Cape Coral; five children, Cathy Kowanek (Manfred) of N. Ft. Myers, Robert Salkowski, Carolyn Salkowski, Joseph Salkowski and Wendy Jackson (David) all of Cape Coral; half-sister, Catherine Dayhoff (Greg); step-sisters, Theresa Garland (Robert) and Elizabeth Groh (Boyd) as well as eleven grandchildren, Robert Fewox, Jr., Joseph Fewox, Samuel Fewox, Robert Salkowski, Jr., Kyle Salkowski, Nathan Dattolico, Kaitlin Salyer, Zachary Gerstmyer, David Jackson, Aleah Jackson, Lindsy Jackson; and six great-grandchildren, Lily Fewox, Ian Dattolico, Sadie Dattolico, Caelan Salyer, Kylee Salyer and Camden Naffziger .

Joseph was preceded in death by his sister, Caroline Salkowski.

Monetary memorial contributions in memory of Joseph G. Salkowski are suggested to the Salkowski family in care of Mullins Memorial, 1056 N.E. 7th Terrace, Cape Coral FL, 33909.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.

Memorial Services will be held 2:30pm, Saturday, June 14, 2014 at Hope Hospice Chapel, 2430 Diplomat Pkwy, East, Cape Coral, 33909 with Father John Deary officiating. The Family will receive friends at the Hope Hospice Chapel at 1:30pm until the hour of service.
