Joseph Mack Allman

November 18, 1937 - April 14, 2021

Joseph Mack Allman, 83, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL for the past eight years, formerly of Rockford, IL, passed away Wednesday, April 14, 2021 in Cape Coral, FL. He was born November 18, 1937 in Anderson, IN to Charles and Zella Allman, now deceased.

Joseph was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in North Fort Myers. He served in the United States Army Reserve. Joe was a man of great intellect and passionate integrity, who adored his wife, children, and grandchildren.  His life was full and adventuresome; his first career at Antioch College was as a contract negotiator for the U.S. Air Force at Wright Patterson Air Force Base; followed by a return to graduate school at Michigan State University where he met and married his “dearest” Summer, and from which he graduated with a doctoral degree and proceeded to a faculty position at the University of Oregon from 1966-1978.  In December 1975, while on vacation in the Mountains of Oregon, Joe experienced a profound conversion encounter with Jesus Christ which took his life in a whole new direction. Joe left the University with his family and returned to the Midwest where he and Summer started Whitehouse Counseling Ministries, a private practice of Christian Counseling in Wheaton and Rockford, Ill.  They were popular speakers on Christian radio, retreats, and conferences throughout Northern, Ill., Wisconsin, Iowa, and Indiana until their retirement in 2008. Prior to converting to the Catholic faith in 2000, Joe pastored a Wesleyan Church in Rockford.  In 2012,

Joe and Summer moved to Florida to live out their remaining service to and love of Our Lord Jesus by church work, neighborhood ministering, prayer, and extending love wherever it was needed.  Now he rests from his labors, to be reunited with those who have gone before, to abide in the glory of God and enjoy conversation with saints. Surely God will find work him there too.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Summer Allman of North Fort Myers; four children, James Angel (Dawn) of Lakemoor, IL, Laura Allman (David Krueger) of Monroe, WI, Barrett Allman (Lisa) of Cottage Grove, WI, and Jolanna Allman of North Fort Myers; grandchildren, Isabella, Athina, Niko, Eva, Nathan, Madeline, Elijah, Gracie, and Mazey; as well as three nephews, Steve, Tom, and Tim.

Joseph was preceded in death by three siblings, Louis Riley Allman, Ruth Ann DeHart, and Dorothy Nagel; as well as a niece, Barbara Klus.

A Memorial Mass will be held 11:00 AM Monday, April 26, 2021 at St. Therese Catholic Church, 20115 N. Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers, FL 33903 with Father Jan officiating.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.
