Joyce A. Hom
Joyce Ann Hom, 80, beloved mother and grandmother, a resident of Cape Coral, FL for the past three years, formerly of Meridian, MS, passed away Sunday, August 7, 2016 in Cape Coral, FL. She was born March 6, 1936 in Meridian, Mississippi to Joseph and Avalee Barrett, now deceased.
Joyce dedicated her life to children and working with anyone who needed a helping hand. She graduated from Mississippi Southern University with a teaching degree. She taught at several elementary schools over the years and later worked at Hope Village Children’s Shelter for abused, neglected, and abandoned children. She worked with the mentally ill at East Mississippi State Hospital and the Friendship Center for the homeless. Joyce will always be remembered as a saint with the most caring, giving and loving heart. She was full of laughter giving to so many much joy and happiness which is why her name will always be in our memories as JOYce. To her children she will always be remembered as providing strength and courage as well as the most fun-loving, caring mother.
She is survived by two loving children, Mindy Hom of Cape Coral, FL and Leia Kramer of Charlotte, NC; a sister, Lynn Hoffman of Ft. Lauderdale, FL and a brother, Oliver Barrett of Lauderdale, MS; as well as one granddaughter, Sara Kramer.
A “Celebration of Life” Service for Joyce A. Hom will begin at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Poplar Springs Drive United Methodist Church, 3937 Poplar Springs Dr., Meridian, MS 39305. Following will be a reception for all friends and family.
