Karen Marie Stricklin
Karen Marie Carney Stricklin, 65, resident of Cape Coral, FL passed away Saturday, November 9th, 2019. Karen spent more than half her life in Lee County, FL, but was born and raised in Nashville, TN, then headed to South Charleston, WV, when she married Kelly before coming to Lee County in 1985.
Karen loved Jesus and attended Cape Christian. Her children were her whole world. From swim meets to baseball games and New Kids on the Block concerts, she was there. Even as a single mother, she made time to be a Brownie Troop Leader. Her favorite pass times include reading books, listening to music and going to the movies. In her younger years, she was a secretary at Belle Elementary, a waitress at Shoney’s, and a bookkeeper for Ayward’s Exclusive Women’s Apparel. When she moved to Florida, started doing accounts payables at Lehigh Corporation, but later went to RDI where she advanced to Accounts Receivables Supervisor and loved her job. When RDI relocated, she chose to stay in Lee County and went to Aqua Systems followed by Edison Oil Company until she left the workforce.
Karen is survived by three children, Brandi Nelson (husband Dennis) of Cape Coral, Chris Stricklin of Charlotte, NC, and Beth Stricklin of N Ft Myers, FL; her brother, Walter L Carney (wife Carol) of Bloomfield, IN, her sister, Regina Skipper of Cordova, IL and sister in law, Chang Carney of Lufkin, TX; 11 grandchildren, Devin, Joshua, Lindsey, Mekaylah, Anthony, Emma, Artayja, Tatyana, Samantha, Sophia and Dakota, as well as 3 great-grandchildren, Alexander, Kaiden and Victoria. Other friends she appreciated, Anthony DelBrocco of Ft Myers, Keosha Stricklin of Charlotte, NC and her personal caretaker, Nachelle Schaffer of Ft Myers. Karen has many aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews as well.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Carney and Lucille Allen; her siblings, Aaron Carney and Reba Dunn; her son Joshua and granddaughter Hope.
A Celebration of Life will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, November 21, 2019 at Cape Christian Fellowship, 2110 Chiquita Blvd. South, Cape Coral, FL 33991, all family and friends are welcome to attend.
