Kenneth Roy Perry, 79, a resident of Cape Coral, FL since June 2013, formerly of Virginia Beach, VA, passed away Sunday, February 9, 2020 in Cape Coral. He was born March 9, 1940 in Granville County, NC to George Thomas Sr. and Adelle Wheelous Perry, now deceased.

Left to treasure his memory are his beloved wife of over 56 years, Brenda Perry of Cape Coral; three loving children, Gregory Thomas Perry (Paige Clark) of Raleigh, NC, Rebecca Lynne Perry (Billy Waller) of Drewryville, VA, and Jonathan Vaden Perry (Beverly Ann) of Cape Coral, FL; a step-sister, Shirley Winstead of Franklinton, NC; as well as six grandchildren, Nicholas (Emily),Vaden (Scarlett), and Drake (Jillian) Phillips; and Emily, Tessa, and Arden Perry.

Ken and Brenda lived in Tidewater, VA for forty years before retiring to Cape Coral, FL.  Ken was a member of McGregor Baptist Church in Fort Myers, FL. He was employed by Norfolk Southern Railway for 35 years in the Marketing Department.  After retiring he spent 5 years volunteering at Sentara Heart Hospital and another 5 years as an employee. He considered his time at the hospital working with family members of patients a ministry. He was able to give comfort and support to others because of his prior heart problems and surgeries.  Ken spent many hours volunteering at his church, his children’s school and various community projects.  His favorite hobby was crocheting.  His beautiful work was enjoyed by family, friends, patients in nursing homes, mothers of newborns and many others who received tablecloths, dolls, baby blankets and layettes, shawls, afghans, and dish cloths.  His greatest joy was giving away his many projects.

Ken was preceded in death by his brothers and sister, G.T. Perry, Jr., Samuel Perry and Emily Joan Bass.

A graveside service will be held 2:00 PM Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Popes Chapel Christian Church, 1237 Pocomoke Road, Franklinton, NC 27525, where Ken attended church as a child and young adult.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Kenneth Roy Perry are suggested to Hope Hospice, Attn: Donation Dept., 9470 Healthpark Circle, Ft. Myers, FL  33908, which provided excellent care and comfort to Ken and his family.

    Surely our hearts are saddened that we will no longer walk in this world with Kenneth. Of all my many cousins, and there are many indeed, his walk with Christ was closer than most. I shall miss our phone calls and emails.

    Brenda and family I know you all are suffering a great loss but there is consolation in the Word of God. The prophet Isaiah wrote in chapter 64, verse 4 these great words of comfort: “No one’s ears have ever heard of a God like you. No one’s eyes have ever seen a God who is greater than you. No God but you acts for the good of those who trust in him.”

    Kenneth is now worshiping Christ face to face wearing a crown of righteousness. He believed the words of Paul in 2 Timothy 4:8: “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” As we cry bitter tears at our loss rejoice for I know that Kenneth is rejoicing at the feet of Jesus.

    Family;

    I count it an honor to have been a friend of KP.

    I have never known anyone that was as constant, as level headed, as kind and giving and as concerned about others as he was. He was a source of strength and encouragement for me and no doubt many others. Even though we have been separated by distance for several years, I feel a hole has been created in my heart just for the loss of hearing his voice on the phone. I hope he can put my name on one of those mansions there in heaven so we can catch up when I get there.

    Brenda, Becky, John and Greg I have no doubt KP has received that salute from our Lord, “. Well done thou Faithful Servant, enter in…’. I trust at the end of time when the Lord determines that this world burns, that we will all be there together. I have a homecoming to look forward to and it will be sweeter knowing Ken is waiting on the other side.

    May the Word of God and the hope of his calling strengthen and encourage you and lift your spirits as we celebrate the life of my friend, KP.

    Dear Brenda, I have so many wonderful memories of Ken as he volunteered every Thursday at Kempsville Baptist Church. Answering phones, taking messages. I treasure the beautiful crocheted doll he made me. He was a great guy.
