Mae Ritchie Simmons

November 6, 1935 - August 28, 2022

Mae Ritchie Simmons Gardner, 86, a 16-year resident of Port Charlotte, FL formally from Collegeville, PA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022, in Port Charlotte. She was born November 6, 1935, in Tremont, PA to Roland and Mary Richie, now deceased.

Mae was a devout Southern Baptist and attended the United Church of Christ in Englewood, FL. She prided herself in being an Administrative Assistant for an Architectural firm for many years. Mae always kept herself busy with many activities. She was on the rifle team in high school, and she was the Worthy Matron and a member of the Eastern Star of Pennsylvania for over fifty years. As well, Mae received a hole in one award for her great golf game. She loved playing golf as well as bingo and the slot machines and she was even on a bowling league. She spent many hours playing rummy cube and cards with her husband George and her stepchildren. She enjoyed spending time reading books, putting puzzles together, and assembling bunka punch embroidery. After her retirement, she would volunteer at many charities. She loved doing this and would always talk about her experience with the different charities she was involved with. Of all these accomplishments she loved to travel. Mae and her husband George took many trips around the world, some of the trips they enjoyed was cruising down the entire Panama Canal to California, an Alaskan Cruise, and a cruise from New York to Halifax, Canada. Of the three the Panama Canal trip was her dream. Most of all, Mae loved her grandchildren, she would go on and on about her grandchildren and how she loved them so much. Mae was a wonderful woman who took pride in her presentation to the world, she surely will be missed and remembered for all that she has accomplished in this world. May she now rest in peace.

Mae is survived by her loving husband, George Gardner of Port Charlotte; brother, Burt Richie (Deborah) of Swan Island, ME; three children, Jeffrey Simmons of Mt Pocono, PA, Cindie Beans of Elizabethtown, PA, Brenda Gallagher of Gilbertsville, PA; two stepchildren, Steven Gardner (Katrina) of North Fort Myers, FL Marlene Geoff (Greg) of  Port Charlotte, FL; nine grandchildren, Henry, Tobias, Matthew, Maggie (Rusty), Emily, Tory, Justin, Gage (Miranda), and Trevor ; nine great grandchildren, Christopher Simmons, Bricen, Billy, Evelyn, Luciana, Cassius, Kloe, Benjamin, Christopher Gallagher as well as nieces and nephews.

I’ve only known Mae for the past six years since my husband and I got married but during that time I have grown to love and care for her. She always liked playing rummy cube with us and most of the time she’d win. I know we will all miss her deeply. May she rest now with our Lord and Savior.
