MICHAEL E. LOWREY, MD, of Ft. Myers, FL, died Thursday, May 14, 2015 in Ft. Myers. He was born in Louisville, KY to George Eugene Lowrey, MD and Lucille Gardner Lowrey Ridgway, now deceased. He lived in Harrodsburg, KY and attended Harrodsburg High School. Dr. Lowrey graduated from the University of Kentucky with a BS and MS and was a member of Kappa Alpha Fraternity. He graduated from University of Louisville Medical School in 1961, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honorary Medical Society. He served his internship at Medical Center Hospital, Columbus, Ga followed by a 3-year Internal Medicine Residency at Emory University Hospital. He moved to Fort Myers, FL with his family in 1965 and joined the medical practice of Fred Burford, MD. In 1967 Dr. Lowrey was drafted into the U.S. Army and his family moved to Phoenixville, PA. He reported to Valley Forge Hospital as a U.S. Army Captain. After his first year, he was sent to 3rd Field Hospital, Saigon, Vietnam where he was promoted to Major. Upon his honorable discharge in 1969, he and his family returned to Fort Myers. He rejoined Dr. Burford’s practice and was elected Chief of Internal Medicine at Lee Memorial Hospital. Dr. Lowrey retired in 2004. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, tennis, camping, running, hiking, and reading.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Sally Bond Lowrey of Ft. Myers; four children George Lowrey of Key Biscayne, FL, Tim Lowrey of Ft. Myers, Scott Lowrey and wife Liz of Westin, FL, and Beth Lowrey of Ft. Myers; a stepson Tom Bond and wife Jen of Austin TX; 12 grandchildren,; a sister Geraldine Lowrey Jackson of Danville, KY; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services and inurnment will be held in Harrodsburg, KY at a later date to be announced.

Donations in memory of Dr. Michael Lowrey are suggested to Hope Hospice, 9470 Healthpark Circle, Fort Myers, Florida 33908.
