Michael “Mike” D. Gieryic

September 9, 1936 - November 25, 2018

Michael Donald Gieryic, 82, a resident of Ft. Myers since 2009, formerly of Hamilton, NY, passed away Sunday, November 25, 2018 in Ft. Myers from a heart attack. He was born September 9, 1936 in Sheboygan, WI.

Michael graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a Masters Degree in Library Science. He was a catalog/reference librarian at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY and head librarian at Morrisville State College Morrisville, NY. He was a member of the Hamilton Village Historical Commission, Recreation Committee, Beautification Committee, Sports Boosters, 50 Club and Hamilton Club. Michael was active in the Sanibel Bike Club, Caloosa Bird Club, and a board member of the Sanibel Center 4 Life. Michael ushered at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord, the Barbara B. Mann and Florida Repertory theaters. He volunteered at Lakes Regional Park, Hope Hospice, and Ding Darling National Wildlife Center. Mike enjoyed biking, swimming, kayaking, reading, birding and automobiles.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jane Gieryic of Ft. Myers; four children, Todd Gieryic (Brita) of Delmar, NY, Stephanie Annino (Gareth) of N. Stonington, CT, Andrea Gieryic of Ft. Myers, and Gregory Gieryic (Patty) of Arlington, VA; two sisters, Mary Hein (Dean) and Betty Osterhaus (Skip) of McFarland WI ; one brother, Jack Gieryic (Deanna) of Lewisville, TX; five grandchildren, Chelsea, Christopher, Peter, Joseph and Nadya; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Florence Gieryic, and a brother, Charles Gieryic.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, January 4, 2019 at the Church of the Resurrection of Our Lord, 8121 Cypress Lake Dr, Fort Myers, FL 33919 with Father Oliver Toner officiating followed by a celebration of life.
