Monique L. Boucher

May 9, 1926 - September 23, 2020

Monique L. Boucher, 94, a longtime resident of Lee County, FL, formerly of Windsor Locks, CT, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 in Cape Coral, FL. She was born on May 9, 1926 in Sainte-Flore, Canada to Elzear and Alpheda Lafreniere. Her parents died when she was very young. She grew up in a convent in Quebec City but spent summers with her siblings and large extended family who looked after her. Her love of Canada and her family stayed with her throughout her life. It is in Canada that she began her life and it is there where she will find her final rest.

Among Monique’s many life accomplishments was the proud day in 1966 when she became a US citizen. She worked for twenty years in the Space and Life Lab at Hamilton Standard, a division of United Technology Corporation, in Windsor Locks, CT. After leaving Hamilton Standard, she enjoyed a long and happy retirement at Lake Fairways community in Fort Myers, FL where she enjoyed playing cards and shuffleboard, travel and socializing with her many friends. She was the Cul de Sac Captain, member of the Lake Fairways Women’s Club and a greeter at Saturday morning coffee.  She loved visits with her grandchildren, baseball, music and going to Canada each summer to spend time with her family. She had a “joie de vivre” that was forever present in her smile, in her laughter and in her endearing nature.

She is survived by her loving children, Norman Boucher (Linda Lee) of Windsor Locks, CT, Jeannie Stephenson (Keith) of Tampa, FL, and Denise Lemire (Raymond) of Cape Coral, FL; her ex-husband Raymond Boucher of Alstead, NH; her brother, Fernand Lafreniere of Shawinigan, Quebec, Canada; five grandchildren, Eric Stephenson of Tampa, FL, Rachel Stephenson Daniels (Chase) of Eagle River, AK, Jared Stephenson (Lauren) of San Diego, CA, Keith Lemire of Cape Coral, FL, and Michelle Lemire, also of Cape Coral, FL; three great grandchildren, Alex, TJ, and Landon; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family in Canada and in Connecticut. Monique was preceded in death by her grandson, Craig Winter, and her 12 siblings. The family will forever be grateful to the kind doctors, nurses and caregivers who provided her care during the final years of her life.

We have lost the person whose story provided the beginning of ours. Her life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, loved beyond words by so many, and missed beyond measure.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, November 1, 2020 at Fuller Metz Funeral Home, 3740 Del Prado Blvd. So., Cape Coral, FL 33904 with Reverend Leo O’Boyle officiating.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.

Memere has gone to be with her family, friends and the other angels. Yes, she had already earned her wings while she was here with us as an earthly angel. To know her was to love her and be loved by her. There will never be another like her

I am so sorry for your loss, but she sounded like a woman who rung all she could out of life and left it a much better place by having been here. Thoughts and prayers are with your entire family. God bless and keep you.

My memories of aunt Monique will be forever cherished. The highlights of my younger years was the announcement that she and her family would visit with us, during the summer months in Shawinigan Canada, From the time she arrived until she left, our home was full of laughter, fun and wonderful stories of all her experiences. The entire family always loved to hear aunt Monique laugh, and at every opportunity I would perform my clown routine to get this response.
Over the years I was impressed by her dedication to her family, and I admired her resilience in difficult times, This was characteristic of how she lived her entire life . She was and will remain a wonderful model for those who knew her.

My sincere condolences to my cousins Norman, Jeannie and Denise. I share your pain at this difficult time,
    your cousin,
    Lise Dube

My mom and Monique lived together at the same assisted living facility for several years. While she was still able she and my mom were friends and had friendly chats I will never forget Monique and how she always had a beautiful smile for me. I loved her dearly and had and always will have a special place in my heart. I cherish my memories of this dear, sweet lady.

    With love and Deepest Sympathy,

    Judy

Votre cousine Sylvie xxx xxx xxx

What a highlight it was in the summer when “ma matante des États” would come with the family when we were young. Lots of memories… among which the sound of matante Monique’s laughter. Later, a few encounters around weddings or other such occasions… Whenever and whatever the occasion, there was always joy, laughter around matante Monique and later, great memories…
I wish you a good “new life” matante!

On behalf of my brother and sister and I, we want to thank everyone so much for your kind messages and words of comfort. It seems that we all have so many wonderful memories of Mom; her smile, the giggles, the summers visiting with family in Canada, how she loved and cared for people. Thank you everyone. We truly appreciate it.

While istening to the music at the end of the ceremony, I want to thank everyone for your words that could so easily make me go back to some valuable memories… of events and of Matante Monique. I also want to thank you for the invitation to participating in the ceremony, I must say in an unusual way for me… I offer my sincere condolances to all the family… having myself a thought for my Mom as well on this very day of what would have been my Mom’s 100th anniversay.
Hoping to seeing you again some day…
