Robert “Bob” Waldon Durrance, Sr.

May 15, 1948 - April 9, 2021

Robert “Bob” Waldon Durrance, Sr., 72, a resident of Fort Myers, FL since 2018, formerly of Panama, passed away Friday, April 9, 2021 in Cape Coral, FL. He was born May 15, 1948 in Bunnell, FL to Custer and Mary Louise Durrance, now deceased.

Bob was of the Catholic faith, having attended mass at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Celebration, FL. He got his degree in Education from Iowa State and was the only certified Spanish teacher in Alamance County, NC when he retired; this was a second career. Prior to going back to school, his career was in food and beverage management and multi unit supervision. His hobby was cooking. For a missions project for the church, he catered special dinners. He had four different ethnic menus. You picked what style you wanted, and he would come to your house to prepare the food, serve the food and clean up. He would teach you how to do the various dishes you chose if you wanted. The meal would be “soup to nuts”. He served as many as six people. That also gave him a chance to evangelize which he did everywhere he went. In the country of Panamá he taught and evangelized. He loved our Lord! His whole adult life was about sharing our Lord in some way.

He is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie Durrance of Fort Myers; stepmother, Bonnie T. Durrance of Ephriam, UT; as well as a son, Robert Durrance, Jr., and Rene’, wife of Robert Durrance, Jr. and mother of Bob’s two grandchildren, Lana and Katelyn, of Tallahassee.

Memorial Services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, April 15, 2021 at Mullins Memorial, 3654 Palm Beach Blvd, Fort Myers, FL 33916.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Robert Waldon Durrance, Sr. are suggested to Eternal Word Television Network, 5817 Old Leeds Road, Irondale, AL 35210, or to the Gulf Coast Humane Society, 2010 Arcadia Street, Ft. Myers, FL 33916.

    Bonnie,

Very sad to hear of Bob’s passing. We have wonderful memories of him and you. We were the beneficiaries of his love for the Lord and enjoyed the ways he expressed it through his culinary gifts, his love for teaching, music, scholarly reading and discussion. When Bob pursued a venture, he did so with all of his heart. His life was a blessing to us. Love, Ben and Beth Weast

Bob was a very dear friend. I will miss our conversations about books and the beauty of the English language. My husband and I will treasure when “LeBobo” came to serve us dinner for one of our wedding anniversaries. What an extraordinary heart! We will miss him dearly!

I am so sorry to hear of Bob’s passing; Bob and I met only once at a Catholic conferenceand became fast friends immediately due to our absorbing conversation about our beloved shared faith. Bob’s knowledge and enthusiasm fascinated me and was facilitated by his command of language. We kept in touch over the years through email and I regret that we never saw each other again, because each encounter with Bob was enlightening and edifying. My sincere condolences and prayers to all of his friends and family. Heaven has just gained another great saint!

Just learned today of Bob’s passing. I think I have the right man. If I do, I haven’t seen or heard from him since we spent Christmas together in 1969 as missionaries in El Salvador. So pleased to learn of his positive influence on others and of his continuing faith in the Savior through his life. I mourn with family and those closer to him who bid him farewell. I know the Lord will comfort those who seek Him.
