Robert George Abdow

Robert “Bob” George Abdow, 70, of Cape Coral and a Lee County resident since 1982, passed away Monday, June 23, 2014 in Cape Coral. He was born March 2, 1944 in Worcester, MA to George and Stella Abdow, now deceased.

Bob attended the Syrian Orthodox Church. He was very active in his community for over 30 years. He was the owner of Abdow Plumbing and Air Conditioning here locally. He also still held a state certified plumbing and mechanical license in Massachusetts, where he had been in business many years prior to moving to Lee County in the early 1980’s. He maintained high business standards and incorporated the “Golden Rule” into his dealings with customers. When younger he played football, ice hockey and baseball. Past interests and activities locally included sponsoring a men’s softball team and boating. He loved riding his motorcycles and he and his wife attended many out of town rallies and events. As a young man, upon graduation from trade school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard in the 181st Infantry Division Worcester, Massachusetts. He served from 1961-1965 and qualified as an expert marksman. Upon leaving the service, he began his lifelong career of plumbing and recently HVAC as well. He will always be remembered as a generous and caring individual who loved socializing and meeting people. He supported numerous charities, which included children, animals and the environment. He had a larger than life personality and a heart to match. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Rebecca “Becky” DeWinter-Abdow of Cape Coral; two children, Peter Abdow of Worcester, MA and Kimberly Abdow of Shrewsbury, MA; three sisters, Judy Zahka (Phil) of Bellmont, MA, Carol Dame of Westborough, MA and Francine Abdow, of New York, NY; sister-in-law, Paula Geist (Pat) of Cape Coral, sister-in-law Victoria Broward of Cherry Hill, NJ; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as his loving cats, Chanel, Tinkerbell, VooDoo, and Petunia.
