Roger P. Robinson, Sr.

September 11, 1945 - May 27, 2016

Roger Powell Robinson, Sr., 70, a Cape Coral, FL resident since 1979, formerly of Tallahassee, FL passed away Friday, May 27, 2016 in Cape Coral. He was born September 11, 1945 in Jacksonville, FL to Alexander and Sally Robinson, now deceased.

Upon graduating from high school, Roger enlisted into the United States Navy serving three years during the Vietnam War. Following his military service he attended the University of Florida and graduated with a degree in engineering. Following working for several consulting engineering firms, he joined the Public Works Department for the City of Fort Myers as a civil engineer. He retired from the City after 28 years. Roger was a 32nd degree Mason of Scottish Rite of Tropical Lodge # 56. He has been a member of Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church in North Ft. Myers since 1980 serving as an Elder and choir member for many years. His love of music began as a ten year old becoming a boy soprano in the St. John’s Episcopal Boys’ Choir. His love of music led to guitar playing, joining a folk band, playing several roles in the comic operas of Gilbert and Sullivan, and his true love of church music. In later years he enjoyed genealogy pursuits learning interesting facts about his family history.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Martha Jane Robinson of Cape Coral; three loving children, R. Powell Robinson, Jr. of Tampa, FL, T. Samuel Robinson of Clearwater, FL, and Henry E. Robinson, III (Brittany) of Suwanee, GA; five loving grandchildren, Hanna, Ethan, Henry, IV, Charles, and William.

Roger was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Lorraine Breckenridge.

A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, 19251 North Tamiami Trail, North Fort Myers, FL 33903 with Dr. Valerie Bell officiating.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Roger Powell Robinson, Sr. are suggested to Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church, Music Department. He also loved flowers since he grew up working in the family nursery.
