Roger Scott Clark

Roger Scott Clark, 63, passed away on Friday, July, 31st 2015. Roger was born in Manhattan, New York and grew up in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

Roger received a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology from North Carolina State. After college, Roger moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he worked at the Academy of Natural Sciences. In 1980, Roger, his first wife Patricia, and their daughter Marli moved to Ft. Myers, Florida to become the director of the Calusa Nature Center. Roger went on to work for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as an Aquatic Preserve Manager on Cayo Costa State Park. He continued his career working for the Lee County Government from 1984 until 2012, in Planning and Development and then, Parks and Recreation. While employed with the County, Roger worked tirelessly to conserve green spaces to provide natural areas for locals and tourists to enjoy. He took great pride in making the environment a better place, and he was always concerned about the future for his children and grandchildren. Roger played an integral role in the Lee County Conservation 20/20 program. As an Adjunct Professor at Florida Gulf Coast University, for the past ten years Roger shared his knowledge and love for the environment with many students.

Roger and his wife, Juanita, enjoyed exploring Florida, camping and spending time working in their beautiful Florida friendly yard. Roger loved spending time with his family, kayaking, birding and enjoying the outdoors. He served several terms as president of Audubon of Southwest Florida. Roger was an amazing father, grandfather and husband, and he will be severely missed by his family.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, John Conrad and Lillian Fischer Clark. He is survived by his beloved wife, Juanita Clark of Ft. Myers; three loving children, Marli Nixon, husband Michael and son Conrad of Osprey, FL; Britta Devitt, husband Christopher and children Lydia, Lucille and Oliver of Tampa, FL; and Toby Clark and wife Cheryl of Ft. Myers; step-son, Chris Johnson and son Nicholas of Naples, FL; as well as his former wife, Patricia Clark of Ft. Myers.

A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00pm, 15th day, August, 2015 at the Iona House, The Calusa Nature Center and Planetarium, 3450 Ortiz Ave, Fort Myers, FL 33905. In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions in memory of Roger Clark may be sent to Marli Nixon, 7202 Jessie Harbor Drive, Osprey, FL 34229 for a memorial bench, at a local preserve, in Roger’s honor OR Audubon of Southwest Florida, Inc., Post Office Box 61041, Fort Myers, Florida 33906.
