Ruth J. Peeler

January 2, 1937 - May 13, 2018

Ruth Jean Peeler (née Patton) was born in Orlando, Florida on January 2, 1937 to Eva and George Patton. Ruth died on Mother’s Day, May 13, 2018, from cancer. She leaves an amazing and wonderful legacy of kindness to all, and selfless love and devotion to her family.

Ruth and Ross met while in high school at Edgewater High School in Orlando. They married in 1958 after Ruth graduated as a Registered Nurse from Orlando Memorial Hospital’s Nurse Education Program. Ruth worked as a nurse in Tallahassee while Ross completed his degree at Florida State University. Upon graduation, Ross entered the Air Force and became a fighter pilot. As a military spouse, Ruth was his support during his 28-year career, as wife, homemaker and oftentimes sole caregiver to their three children while he was away from home for service to include the Vietnam War. Ruth also worked when possible in her nursing career. After Ross’ retirement from the Air Force in 1987, they moved to Fort Myers. Ruth was delighted to be back in her beloved Florida — she loved being outdoors, exercising and enjoying the warm weather and the beach. Her favorite place to be was floating in the Gulf. They loved having their extended family visit their home in Town & River. Ruth was the personification of The Giving Tree. She was the heart of her family, a kind, gentle, and generous soul, who showed constant, unconditional support and love. We are all certainly very fortunate to have had the blessing of Ruth in our lives. Numbers 6:24-26
