Stephen Curtis

December 2, 1954 - November 15, 2019

Stephen Curtis, 64, a resident of North Fort Myers, FL since 2000, formerly of Northampton, England, passed away Friday, November 15, 2019 in Tampa, FL. He was born December 2, 1954 in Northampton, England to William and Evelyn Curtis, now deceased.

Stephen attended Spencer School for Boys and later became a licensed bricklayer where he worked in construction up until the time he left England in June 2000.  He immigrated to Florida, USA to reunite with his “First Love” Deborah and they were married at Grace United Methodist Church. Stephen continued to work in construction until his health deteriorated which is when he was employed by Lee County school district as a custodian. He continued to work at the Lee County School District Building until October, when he was forced, due to poor health, to return to Tampa General Hospital where he had received 2 organ transplants, a liver in 2004 and a kidney in 2018. After numerous tests he was diagnosed with T Cell Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, received a chemo treatment, but was not able to fight his many illnesses anymore.

People who knew Stephen will remember him for his hard work, quick wit, his humor and never ending smile, despite his constant battle with numerous health problems spanning the last 15 years. He constantly brought home treasures from his dumpster diving at work as well as flowers every Friday night from 2 lovely ladies who were generous enough to give them to him each week. I will miss my “cups of tea in bed” every morning and the dinners he prepared for me before going to work. He will also be remembered for his endless stories from his bachelor days.

He is survived by his beloved wife of over 19 years, Deborah Curtis of North Fort Myers; four loving children, Nicole Reed (Eric) of Labelle, FL, Emily Zyvoloski of North Fort Myers, FL, Trey Zyvoloski (Leslie) of Houston, TX, and Annabel Marler (Dustin) of North Fort Myers; three siblings, Katherine Eady (Jim) of Kingsthorpe, England, Brian Curtis (Joy) of Duston, England, and Terry Curtis (Rosemary) of Duston, England; as well as seven grandchildren, Gabriella, Madison, Michael, Abree, Nicholas, Johnny, and Ricky.

A Celebration of Life will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, December 1, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church, 13 SE 21st Place, Cape Coral, FL 33990 with Pastor Jorge Acevedo officiating.

Memorial Contributions in memory of Stephen Curtis are suggested to The United Network for Organ Sharing/Transplants, 700 North 4th Street, Richmond, VA 23219.

Mullins Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cape Coral, is entrusted with final care.

    Deb, and Family,
I miss Stephen, already. He was a good soul. We never had bad time when we were together. I was sure that he would bounce back from this last bout of trouble. I never dreamed that I would talk to him for the last time, on that Wednesday.
Stephen fought a good fight. His body and mind just couldn’t take anymore.
I’ll remember good all the times we were together.
    Deepest Condolences,
    Keith (aka Kevin)

We are so pleased he was able to visit his family and friends in England this year. It was great to see him and take him to some of the places he remembered, but we did not realise it would be the last time. It is sad that he and Deb were not able to enjoy the golden years of retirement together. We miss you Steve and you will always be in our hearts. With love to Deb and the family xx
