William Leonard Haggett

April 20, 1922 - October 11, 2014

William Leonard Haggett, 92, a Cape Coral resident for a short time, formerly of Wood-Ridge, NJ, passed away Saturday, October 11, 2014 in Cape Coral. He was born April 20, 1922 to William Berkwitz and Irene Berkwitz Haggett, now deceased.

William is remembered for his service in the Army during WWII miraculously surviving the landing on Normandy Beach on June 6, 1944. In civilian life he was a manager of the Route 3 Drive-In Theater in Rutherford, NJ; Operator of the Sweet Shop in Carlstadt, NJ as well as the Algozzini Newspaper Service; Later he served as manager of key punch operators for Automatic Data Processing in Clifton, NJ where he retired in 1985. William was an avid woodworker, a member of the Wood-Ridge Contemporary Club, the Elks of Hasbrouck Heights and a parishioner of Assumption Church in Wood Ridge, NJ.

He is survived by his loving wife of over 58 years, Josephine Haggett of Cape Coral; four children, Deborah Haggett (Edwin Wurzburg) of Cape Coral, William Haggett (Destiny) of Cape Coral, Mary Haggett of Colonia, NJ and Barbara Case (Gerald) of Cresco, PA; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Algozzini of Fairlawn, NJ and Frankie Gorbacz of Pocono Lake, PA; as well as seven grandchildren.

Memorial Services were held at 2 PM, Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241 with military honors presented.
