David Kent Peters

November 17, 1964 - March 3, 2024

David Kent Peters, 59, a resident of Ft. Myers, FL since 2020, formerly of Boca Raton, FL and Madison, VA, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024 in Cape Coral, FL. He was born November 17, 1964 in South Charleston, WV to John and Peggy Peters.

David was of the Christian faith and was a Veteran of the United States Navy. He grew up in Stafford, VA and graduated from North Stafford High School in June 1983.  The following year, he enlisted in the Navy 6/1/84 as a welder and was an HT3, firefighter, welder, and did pipe fitting and metal fabrication.  After leaving the Navy in July 1987, he lived in Ocean View, VA and continued welding. He also became a black belt in Karate and competed in tournaments defeating other black belts.  He enrolled at the Computer Learning Center in 1991 and got a degree in Electronics – Operating Systems and Programming and Troubleshooting and Hardware Analysis.  In 1992, he started working at Stone & Hoover starting out as a Stage II Vapor Recovery Technician.  He continued learning and became a gas station Maintenance Technician.  He went to work at the Tyree Organization, and he acquired many certifications and became a department manager with 20 technicians under him.

After many years of working with Exxon, Mobil, Crown and many dealers, Dave left and created his own company, Peters Principal Petroleum, with his wife, Clarissa.  After a few years, he went back to working for other companies.  He worked for F.W. Baird Petroleum and became the lead technician, acquiring many more certifications. Costco came knocking, and Dave created Peters Petro Services, again with his wife, Clarissa.  After 8 years, Costco changed their program and Dave obtained a position at Guardian Fueling Technologies as a Regional Branch Manager.  Shortly after, they made him a Southern Regional Manager in charge of the Ft. Lauderdale and Ft. Myers branches.  He went on to work for Meco Petroleum and took over the Dion’s Petroleum account throughout the Keys.  He was then approached to be the Regional Fueling Manager for Creighton Construction and Development.  He built a department with the finest team, and his career ended as Director of Operations for the newly created Creighton Fuels and EV Technology. Working at Creighton was his favorite position. Even during his illness, he continued to manage his team and projects.  He was able to earn the loyalty of his employees because of his unique management style and ability to support their needs. He was proud of the work they completed as a team.

Dave will be remembered as a kind, generous, funny, hardworking, excellent provider, great father and stepfather, and ultimately a wonderful husband who was adored by his proud wife.  He loved good food and spent time cooking crabs and shucking oysters.  He loved cakes and pies, and his favorite dessert was tiramisu.  He loved fishing and did catch a lot of great fish in Virginia off our boat.  At times he became overzealous and would pull the rod out of my hands.  He loved knives and collected some that he carried around.  He spent time sharpening every knife and pair of scissors in the house.  He loved shooting his guns and having target practices with anyone who would participate.  He was excellent at shooting pool and won a lot of drinks for us.  He was a great dancer and loved to boogie.  His favorite way to spend the day was hanging out with his wife and family.  He loved hosting cookouts and made sure everyone had plenty of food and fun.  He was always telling stories of being in the Navy, with his favorite of missing the Puget Sound’s movement for about a month.  He was charismatic and always smiling and positive about the future.  He loved to take mini vacations and sit by the water with a cold drink.  He will be missed terribly by everyone that had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Clarissa Peters of Ft. Myers, FL; his children, Cody Peters (Malissa) of Madison, VA, and Samuel Stephens of El Paso, TX; stepchild, Michael Stuart of Ashburn, VA; brother-in-law, George Alvarez (Roseann) of Vienna, VA; as well as his grandchild, Colbie Jo Peters.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, March 25, 2024 at South Florida National Cemetery, 6501 FL-7, Wellington, FL 33449.
