Mullins Memorial Funeral Home In The Event

In the event your family experiences a death in the family and you are wondering what to do next, we have created the following advice to assist you in the next steps to take.

Your first phone call should be to Hospice. The Hospice nurse will come to your home and pronounce. The Hospice nurse will then give you as much time as you feel you need, prior to calling Mullins Memorial. Once Mullins Memorial is called, we generally are at the residence within 30 – 45 minutes.

Hospice generally will allow your family the opportunity to say good bye to your loved one at Hospice. This time frame is approximately four hours. If you are not present at the time, Hospice will call you and make sure you are made aware of the option to immediately go to their facility. Once you have had the time you feel you need, Hospice will then call Mullins Memorial. Once Mullins Memorial is called, we generally are at the facility within 30 – 45 minutes

Please let the social worker or nursing supervisor know that your family is being cared for by Mullins Memorial and provide them with our telephone number. As soon as the facility is ready for us to proceed, they will call us and let us know. Once Mullins Memorial is called, we generally are at the facility within 30 – 45 minutes.

Your first phone call should be to 911. The proper authorities (EMS, Fire, Police) will arrive within minutes. They will consult with you, as well as the Medical Examiner. Based upon those conversations, the Medical Examiner will either release into Mullins Memorial’s care or take custody of your loved one for further investigation. If the Medical Examiner releases into the care of Mullins Memorial, the authorities at your home at that time, will call Mullins Memorial. Once Mullins Memorial is called, we generally are at the residence within 30 – 45 minutes.

The Medical Examiner will take custody of your loved one’s body. The Medical Examiner will not release into Mullins’ care until they have received a completed Medical Examiner Release Authorization Form signed by the legal next of kin. This form is located under the FORMS tab on our website. Our suggestion to expedite matters is to print the document, sign and then fax or email directly to Mullins Memorial. We will then forward to the Medical Examiner. Once the Medical Examiner has completed their investigation they will contact Mullins Memorial. Once Mullins Memorial is contacted, we generally are at the Medical Examiner’s office within 30 – 45 minutes or the first opportunity in which they can accommodate us, to pick your loved one up.
